SamKook, looks like you went through trouble. Hope you know I don't need to tell you I appreciate what you have done very much, but I will anyway.

As I read your post, I was skeptical that anyone would respond to your call for folks to do the comparison, and then I was delighted Otrora did so; thanks, Otrora. (I downloaded and installed your Videocheck program, by the way... it sounded nifty, but I'm not sure I'll be able to figure out how it works. For example, I ran two of the samples through it, and the program just gave a number for each.)

At any rate, the 187 MB option is too small for a two hour movie... even for a small file lover as I. (Although... the result didn't really look all that god-awful!) I wouldn't disagree with Otrora's narrowing down on either of ANND-053_Red_532MB.mp4 or ANND-053_Full_705MB.mp4... but my preference would be the ones in the 400 series, either of the 408 MB, the 462 MB or the 473 MB ones. (I compared with the top-of-the-line sample, the original source of 1320 MB... and while this one was obviously better, it was not overpoweringly so. At least not on my computer monitor, naturally on a pro video monitor or a giant plasma-screen, I'm sure there would be greater reason to appreciate the higher quality, but to the naked eye under the usual circumstances, the 400 series is just FINE.

And ahhhhhhh... what a pleasure to use Uploading again. By the way, adding to our prior discussion of best filehosts for free downloaders, how could I have forgotten good old Mediafire? (I wonder why Mediafire is so rarely used... I suppose it does not offer as enticing a $$$ incentive for uploaders, maybe.) Looking through the back pages of this thread, I noticed Jumbofiles popping up now and then. I have had one old experience with Jumbofiles, and I don't remember how good it was. But I do remember Slimedog, in one of his tail-end posts, giving Jumbofiles a thumb's up, and that didn't fail to make an impression on me.

What a professional effort with the samples, SK; I envy your know-how. I'll be awaiting your re-post of ANND-053 when you're ready.

From what I understood, you load 2 videos and then click on the picture to switch between the 2. The color on the top left corner tells you which one is playing.
It does look quite useful so thank for suggesting it Otrora.

The 187MB one was more to see how low I could go than something serious. I was also surprised that it didn't look worse than that.

My personal preference(not that it matter anyway since I don't intend to keep the encodes) is toward the full smth31 so I'll go with the red one at 462MB. I can't stand all the compression artifacts in the 2 Otrora(and someone else on the IRC channel) chose so a little deblocking at maximum strength does wonder to fix it. It's also best to avoid the ones with blur in them since they're a little excessive in my opinion.

I don't use mediafire since it has a 200MB limit and no remote uploading(which is a deal breaker for me). Others don't because they have a tendency to delete copyrighted files much faster than most hosts.
Jumbofiles was really good, but they had server problem at one point and I lost everything in my account. Also, last time I checked, I still wasn't able to remote upload anything(for at least 3 months) so I gave up on them.

It's not too hard to learn and making the samples, without counting the encoding time(which you can find in the txt file included in the rar) where I was watching TV, only took me about two hours of work which include the time I took to learn what could be done with mp4's.
One thing I had forgotten to mention from one of your previous post is that the secret to keep the audio in sync when reencoding is to load the video the right way. A thing which most encode anything in 1 click software won't do since the easiest way to load anything is to use directshow and it has the nasty habit of not being frame accurate so it can drop frames from time to time which will make the audio go out of sync.
So if you use avisynth with the right way to load a video, then you can load your avisynth script in an encoding software that support it and it will stay in sync.

Here's what the avisynth script I used for all the samples look like just to prove it's not very hard to make:

The first line load the video, the second does the deblocking and the third lower the resolution to the two specified numbers(the 4th and 5th are commented which means they get ignored).
It takes a little bit of reading about avisynth to learn what it all means, but after that, encoding just became much easier and reliable.

I think definition is so important with JAV
I love to look at the lines in & around the eyes, the beautiful raven hair & the soft pretty soles of the models when they scrunch them.
Deblocking kills that definition
The de-blocking filters work wonders with anime where killing definition is not noticeable but for video it can do more damage than good.
It makes the video watchable at lower bitrates but once you open it up anywhere near the resolution that we use nowadays for our monitors & or televisions the loss of the information becomes more noticeable.

Just curious as to why you would want to go so small?

There are so many ways to obtain storage.
From cheap OEM drives you can buy & then pop into a durable 5-10 dollar enclosure, to dirt cheap DVD's that provide plenty of storage.

storage not problem as much the time to upload and download. especially upload to RYU.

Comparing the size different videos, much depends on program used to play back.
I think the 400's size better.

I agree, which is why I personally wouldn't even consider downloading an encode that small or why I download very few of the giant wmv file we see so often these days since they're all blurry messes.

I always try to get ISO files since the best way to get the most detail with JAV is to use a high quality deinterlacer(like QTGMC) since every movies are interlaced. Sadly, it's not a very popular practice outside the Idol section.

But the goal here was to make something small and watchable and the best way to compress something even more is to destroy detail. It then becomes a personal preference what kind of detail you destroy first to reach the size you want.

I'll let someone else answer why they would want something that small since I have over 12TB in HDD space, enough money to buy more as needed and an unlimited internet connection which I fully utilize.

They worked for me. If you are referring to the "skipped countdown", they only way I have not been able to download them is if I use jdownloader which I find to be an inferior download manager. Too many errors and it slows down my speed. GetGo works much better.

I cut all the scenes out.
I collect mixed films & then extract.
Have a look at the contact sheets I include with all of the videos I share.
They have timelines added.
They show the action throughout

The names at the end of these files are always

Yeah I always wonder why when there is H.264/MPEG-4 AVC & all of the great tools available for free to take advantage of the technology, why people still choose to encode to WMV.

I either use linear blend or more commonly Yadif.
Both are very stable & fast for me if cutting interlaced vids.
I don't do much encoding of JAV directly from DVD files like you do, but it is more working with what has already been ripped.
I pull out scenes for lesbian fans & foot fetish & other types of fetish scenes.

I do a lot of origin transfers from VHS & other tape bases & so I work a lot with deinterlacing lol
I think I tried qtgmc sometime back on my older Vista system but it was a bit unstable & my old system didn't have the power that my current one does.
I will have another go with it.
