Very subjective, I'd say. I'm in my forties and I enjoy seeing young pretty girls but also mature ladies that are still very much attractive. So what some like others won't. My advice is just wait until you see what you like. With the sheer volume of titles something is bound to come around. You might also try looking up older titles if the newer stuff isn't doing it for you.
It easy to get stuck in the past, but for every great JAV actress that is no longer working (Sora Aoi, Mihiro, Yua Aida...) there are young ones breathing new life into the business (Minori Hatsune, Haruki Sato, Anri Okita...).
And as far as quality goes, the S-tier studios are still producing some great material (S1, Idea Pocket, Alice-Japan, SoD...).

For me its not the girls, there is plenty of sexy girls recent or past. My issue is the videos themselves, it could be boring or just I don't like it. I have to see the screenshots of the file before downloading, and not rely on the covers or their screenshots too much photoshop etc.
I think je666 is absolutely right here - there are lots (too many?) newcomers into this business. And so many of them are very sexy, if anything the quality of good looks higher than ever before. If i have any (mild) criticism of the new intake is that many of them look vaguely similar. It's true that some of my own favourites are no longer in JAV (my avatar for one) but there will be new girls to come along and get the blood racing.
The issue is with the product. Where once JAV reigned supreme interms of storyline (not the stupid ones) and eroticism and the acting ability of the women, it now seems to resort far too often to the extreme genres and themes that the makers think the JAV addicts want. Some may want the extreme BDSM/DP/Scat/Vomit etc., etc., but they surely remain a largely minority taste. Some of this is complacency - far too many titles identical reruns/rehashes of earlier films just with a change of actress or even worse so many with no plot at all which for me is dull. Are they running out of ideas? There is too much uninteresting filler, with more and more actresses having to sacrifice the last remnants of whatever dignity they had to find their "management" expecting them to hit the extreme trail at no extra cost.
Yet some of this is hard economics - lots of young girls and women attracted to the industry for the apparent easy money and relative fame - better than working in a shop or an office perhaps for many? So the makers can slash the fees paid and take a gamble on an unknown or two as the production costs in JAV have been reduced drastically as well. The more established women are complaining that they earn less than before as they wander off into hostess or soapland ie. prostitution. Let us not forget the phenomenal rise in amateur porno as well.
And the other thing that is changing this business irrevocably is the thing JAV used to exploit and market its product in the first place - the internet. What complete loser actually buys the stuff nowadays?
Would it surprise anyone to see JAV end up like the US industry?

It is an amazing thread - I do not know how he finds the time but I'll forward if anyone wants to pm me as I do not know how the mods view such a recommendation on here. But there are hundreds of new faces out there - whether they are any good is a matter of time and opinion. And I've downloaded lots of titles just because they were there!

One reason why lately many of the new gals look alike is because they are getting plastic surgery. Nose-jobs and boob-jobs are extremely common with obviously fake boob-jobs becoming the norm. I have a an old collection of AV industry magazines from the 80s and 90s that I'm in the process of shredding and noticed that the actresses of then didn't have nose-jobs even remotely as often as now.
To be honest, I do like the look of a defined bridge of the nose but when everyone has it done (along with fake breasts to boot) it makes them look more similar overall. Perhaps that is a contributing factor to the 'sameness' mentioned by others in this thread.
