Vulkanen Sakurajima i södra Japan fick under tisdagen ett större utbrott och spydde ut lava, stenblock och rök.

Den finns inga uppgifter om skador från vulkanen, som ligger i en bukt intill staden Kagoshima med nästan 700.000 invånare.

Men myndigheterna i staden har höjt beredskapen på grund av den seismiska aktiviteten.

Even though I've never been to Japan, Kagoshima is one of my favorite Japanese cities because of its prominent role in Japan's last civil war:
