She's getting some criticism for this. Not only has it been merely a name change haircut a gimmick, but I read she acts with a fake shyness in the film as if she's debuting in JAV. As a non-paying consumer I've no hard feelings lol, but I'll start paying attention again when she does rougher stuff.
If this is true. She should be criticized for it. She won't be the first to come back with a name change and different look but the fake shyness is a f***** turn off
I get what you're saying but maybe the main audience feel tricked that this was basically either a scandal, studio interference, or whateva? I don't know and don't care. Karen Kaede is not on my radar. Neither is the other Karen lol
1. We all know porn stars play different roles, we also know some fans are way serious about their idols.
2. We also know Japanese fans spend lots of money on videos and merchs for their idols.
3. We know JAV actresses and studios take fan complaints seriously.
It a good system. Keep your fans happy and they will lovingly spend money on your stuff and adore you

It's not so much the actress I would criticize. This is a studio decision. I just think it's weird that they do this in JAV. Like you say, people follow their idols pretty closely. It's not like people aren't going to know.
I think actresses will blame themselves before a studios or their fans. They know its those fans that pay their career.
I guess once the studios owns your name and character, it's little a porn actress can do.
They can hope their fans will follow them and gain new ones too.
I personally find it silly but somewhat needed.
1. If a problem actress(and there's been a few) bring bad intention to your studio, you want to erase her and send her away.
2. If an actress is no longer favorable and still somewhat popular, you can try a name change and hope for another debut
That's the problem. but it's not only in Japan. Here, you can read the same things when you say that gokkun movies used tricks and the "stats" on the cover are fake. They also think interviews are real (while it's just marketing to sell movies). Some dudes are in a sexual misery so they find refuge in porn. The same thing happens with gaming and a lot of other stuff. If you have a healthy life, porn is just a fun thing to watch alone or with someone else. And if people criticize your favorite actress online, you shouldn't get mad and insult people lol.

As for getting criticised for coming back under a new persona and acting like a prude, I think I understand. It's so hard to go along with that that only a fool could do it. Was she an innocent flower when she first came to JAV? No, I definitely don't think so either. But could I prove it? No, I couldn't. When there is no proof against or for something, it's easy to play pretend. But when you've got a whole catalogue of JAV films as proof of her promiscuous past, nobody will buy into the fantasy of her being a new, shy girl, because everybody knows that it's an old actress pretending to be a new, different actress pretending to be shy. No wonder "Lemon" leaves a sour taste in people's mouth...
