This film uses Chinese actors to play the leading role of Japan, criticizes the militarism of Dahe nation with Chinese viewpoint, and a postwar born taiwan director to film the Japanese Imperial Army story during the Second World War, which is a prominent attempt in the history of Chinese film. Although Zhou Teng's creative ambition affected the overall performance of the film due to his wishful thinking in theme and handling, his efforts in exploring new themes and rigorous attitude towards production are still worthy of affirmation.
