AFP - Five-time defending champions Japan got off to a flying start in the Asian Five Nations rugby tournament by scoring a humiliating 121-0 victory over the promoted Philippines on Saturday.

Full back Ayumu Goromaru gave Japan a 3-0 lead with a penalty in the seventh minute, which appeared enough for the Asian champions as he also scored 14 conversions and one try for a total of 36 points.

Two rookies Male Sau and Kenki Fukuoka, as well as Harumichi Takekawa, Hitoshi Ono and Ryu Koliniasi Holani scored two tries each, while eight other players were also on target.

Fly-half Gareth Holgate had a chance to score for the Philippines but he mis-fired a penalty shot twice in the eighth minute and 19th in the first half.

Japan will take on Hong Kong away next week, while the Philippines will play Hong Kong at home in the third week.

"Money talks bullshit walks"... Japan has the money to buy top notch players and I beleive they surely did. Many other teams got spanked by Japan also over the years. Japan has been playing since 1987 and the Philipines has been playing only four years now. You might have to get a few spanking before you can start spanking back.

Here is a quote from the Phillipine Star News....

Japan has played in every World Cup of Rugby since its inception in 1987 but has won only once, a 52-8 thrashing of Zimbabwe in 1991. The team called the Brave (formerly Cherry) Blossoms drew with Canada in 2007 and 2011. The romp over the Philippines was nothing new to Japan which crushed Chinese-Taipei twice, 155-3 and 120-3, in 2002. In rugby union history, three big blowouts were Australia’s 142-0 lacing of Namibia at the 2003 World Cup and Argentina’s blasting of Paraguay, 152-0 in 2002 and 144-0 in 2003.

It seems also that there are other blowout games in the past with outrageous scores from other teams too.

I was envisioning Japans team as a bunch of Japanese men, but in reality there are only a couple actual Japanese men on the team. It's mostly white guys, which are probably a big percentage of the small percentage of the foreign populace that Japan let's into the country.

Here's the "Japanese" team...

Here's the Philllipine team (funny isn't it, that they are sponsored by Toyota :puzzled: )....
