Description: The first of two TV movies based on the characters created by Natsuhiko Kyogoku ("Ubume no natsu", "Moryo no hako" etc.), whose specialty is kaidan and yo^kai mystery novels where the supernatural element usually turns out to be at least partially false in the end. To date, Kyo^goku has had three "Kosetsu Hyaku Monogatari" novels published in Japan, each averaging in excess of 700 pages!
"Kosetsu Hyaku Monogatari" has also seen release as an anime series under the same general title, and released in the US as "Requiem From the Darkness".
General Plot: An aspiring writer in the Bakumatsu era who hopes to produce a volume of 100 Ghost Stories in his travels about Japan meets and is drawn into friendship and participation with a trio of enterprising outsiders and petty criminals whose specialties aid them in unraveling apparently supernatural crimes and bringing the guilty parties to their just rewards.
In this first film, the team face a mystery surrounding a murderer who has been executed at least three times by beheading, but keeps returning from the grave to strike again.
