Does anyone know if jav idols are paid more or less for lesbian movies? I know that in American porn they are paid less but with this recent rise of lesbian porn is it because of the money or are more women just becoming bisexual?

That's a good question, alphaqsilly.

If I had to guess, I'd say the same or slightly more because same-sex play is still somewhat taboo in Japan. Sometimes when an actress *finally* does a lesbian title, it's promoted heavily as her 'breaking a ban'.

Western porn pays significantly less for lesbian scenes, from the first scene on. And the amount paid per scene for web work is more or less fixed per site, so unless the actress becomes a genuine superstar, holding off from doing bg work won't increase the amount they eventually get - certainly not enough to make up for the smaller amount they'll get for every scene up to that point. Bigger names might be more likely to get work at fancier sites with higher rates, but an actress that got famous doing bg is at least as likely to get hired there as one who has stuck to gg. The sites that actually pay the most are often the worst to work for, they pay more because they have to, subjecting the actresses to abuse, disgusting partners, or both. Especially sites that are run by a guy (or guys) who got into porn so that he can legally pay young hotties who would normally cross the street to avoid him for rough or fetish sex. They'd love to get their hands on a big name, but mostly content themselves with newbies and the desperately broke. Actresses working for the big studios under contract may have a different deal, if she's truly stunning or has a really great hook she might make as much doing gg as she would doing full bg, but full length films and DVD sales are dwarfed by internet only porn by the scene. (I think I read somewhere that for every porn studio in the rest of the world, there are at least 10 in the greater Los Angeles region. Very few of those produce a physical disk for sale.) The actresses that do gg only aren't all exclusively lesbians themselves, many/most got into the business with a boyfriend or husband, often working as a manager. He's happy to see her make money and have sex with other women - in many cases he talked her into it in hopes that he'd get to have sex with all those other women, too - but doesn't want her having sex with any men other than him. Others simply don't like the rough sex with heavily tattooed men that is so common in current American porn, so only perform with women even though they are strictly heterosexual in their personal lives. But they make that choice knowing that they are going to work less often, and make less per scene.
