Blast back to the 60s in the crowd-pleasing musical movie GS Wonderland! Directed by Honda Ryuichi (My Wife’s Shell), GS Wonderland is set in the mid-1960s when the Britpop-inspired “Group Sound” wave swept through Japan. This fabulously fun film cheekily follows the star rise of a fictional GS rock band formed by Kuriyama Chiaki (Kill Bill), Mizushima Hiro (Mei-chan no Shitsuji, Drop), Ishida Takuya (Tokyo Boy), and Asari Yosuke (Code Blue). Kuriyama stars as an organ-player who’s forced to disguise as a guy to be part of the band The Tightsmen. GS Wonderland is packed with psychedelic cheer and original music written and composed by Hashimoto Jun and Tsutsumi Kyohei, hit-making songwriters of the GS era. There’s also plenty of Beatles haircuts, 60s fashion, and flamboyant stage costumes to go around. If you want to see Mizushima Hiro in tights and Kuriyama Chiaki gender-bending, this is your movie!
