China has put the finishing touches on the world's
biggest radio telescope, whose 1,640-foot-wide
(500 meters) dish will scan the heavens for signs
of intelligent alien life among other tasks.

"FAST"; The name of this radio telescope, was built in
China's Guizhou Province, more than 1,240 miles

(2,000 kilometers) southwest of Beijing.

The 1.2-billion-yuan ($180 million) facility should
help scientists learn more about the universe's early
days detect low-frequency gravitational waves and
hunt for signals that may have been produced by
distant alien civilizations .... project officials said.

Due to the wide expanse of land needed for
the project and the electromagnetic waves
emitted about 9,110 residents in the area
had to be relocated in houses located not

less than 5 kilometers (3 miles) away
from the radio telescope.

Listen to me - China switches on world’s largest radio
telescope "FAST" today to search for alien transmission.
