I am now very careful NOT to click on any thumbnails that are hosted on external photo hosting sites here...twice in the past month I have received wicked viruses from clicking on thumbnails that took me to external photo hosting sites...I can't figure which one of the hosting sites is the culprit because I had computer problems almost immediately after being sent to the hosting site...I could tell it was going to be bad when the photo seemed to be taking a long time to download, but was downloading like crazy (as if I was downloading a large movie file)...I closed the window quickly but the damage was done...the viruses (virtual monde plus more) had been downloaded and my anti-virus didn't catch it...cleaned up my computer after much work...thought it might have been a delayed assault from another site...came here again, clicked on more thumbnails and the hosting site downloaded a bunch of viruses again...needless to say, now I hover the thumbnails and only click on them if hosted internally by akiba-online.com

Thanks for the information, am sure many at AO know there are risks when clicking on those links. Do you happen to remember which videos you were trying to look at, maybe that could help others from clicking on the same links.

This is generally good advice. It's unfortunate that you had to learn it the hard way.

The sad thing is, you can't even trust Rapidshare (I got hit up by a pop-up for the first time ever the other day on RapidShare!) or MegaUpload (which is notorious for infecting people's computers with their stupid browser add-on toolbar), and those are the two most highly-respected/trusted sites in the English-speaking pornographic community for sharing files through.

But yes, many of the picture sites which people use (including on Akiba-Online, regretfully) are unethical sites which offer to pay those people a small sum of cash for every time somebody clicks on the link. Meanwhile, the sites' staff sets up virtual traps for the unsuspecting web surfer, some of which are sprung the moment the user begins to load the site in his browser; and most of these traps are viruses or malware which can compromise a user's computer, either for the purpose of:
a) making him reformat his computer and thus lose his entire collection of illegally-downloaded pornography (an objective of the pornography industry) , or
b) tricking him into supplying his personal information (credit card #, SSN, bank account number) to a phishing site which pretends to be a reputable anti-virus company that can help the helpless user to rid his computer of the wretched malware, but which is in fact nothing more than the elaborate creation of scam artists in Nigeria (or similar countries).

Why do the image-hosting service providers do such cruel things to you? Because they're promised a cut of the profits from the crooks.

Why do the users do such cruel things to you? Because they're selfish fuckers who are also promised a cut of the profits. (Albeit a measly sum, meaning they're not only selfish fuckers but they're cheap fuckers, too, because they ruined your computer for a nickel.)

The thing is, if what you say is true (and I don't doubt that it is), then it would be nice of you to help the staff and to help your fellow members by:
a) identifying the link(s) which you suspect of infecting you
b) identifying the threads in which those links were provided

Providing this information will enable the staff to take action.

I wish I could have noticed which host site it was, but at the time(s) it happened, I quickly closed the window trying to minimize the intrusion and didn't have a chance to notice which hosting site it was...now, I'm just scared to try any of them again.

Which part of the forum (jav's, idol, direct downloads, etc.) were you looking at when you got infected?

uh, i never had those problems , but i'm using FF3 with noscript turned on by default ..... if clicking a thumbnail it give me the pic, or at least a text link that say "click here if the pic don't load" or similar, i left pic open ..... if instead the hoster try to launch a java or jscript and don't let me see the pic without them, i just send them to hell and close the window :) .....

cause the site need to load java or jscript for put a virus in your pc, it's always safe to do this, and never let those hosters run any script in your pc, so you're safe ..... this way, the worse thing that can happen, is that you don't see the pics :)

edit: some examples :)

forgot to say to use also adblock plus, that is one of the better addons, with noscript :D

for the pics, as example, both hotlinkimages and picfoco uses the same identical js for the load page, and if you don't have js enabled, you see the text link saying click here etc ..... but in hotlinkimage, if you click the link, you get the pic in a normal html windows (and this mean the hoster is ok) ..... with the picfoco links, if you click the link, you get an html page, but no pic, cause it still try to load jscripts in your system before give you the pic ..... this for me mean bad hoster to avoid :)

about rs and mu, too, needs only one authorization for work, and all the rest can be killed with no remorses :p ..... also, with adblock plus, a lot of ads parts can be blocked in the pages, having them still working ..... look as how those pages looks when i load them in my pc in the attached images (and they still works :D)

I respectfully disagree. There have been internet viruses since long before Java or JS became ubiquitous. I'm not trying to split hairs with you: I'm just pointing out that your bold-faced "need" ought not to be in a bold typeface.

Hi Sakunyuusha

maybe i said it in non clear way, sorry

i mean that a site, for load something and launch it in your pc without your intervent, need java / js, at least ..... being also more specific, i'm talking about those sites that are able to load any malicious thing just visiting their pages, clicking or downloading nothing, just looking ..... this cause the js do all the work .....

ofcourse i know about viruses, after all i'm in the field "only" from 28 years, more or less :), but i was assuming that was speaking about those types of threats, where you just visit a page and then find toolbars, plugins, and virus / trojans :p that you never clicked or installed, on your pc ..... and have not specified this part ..... my guilty
