Anyone knows about a real time upscale program for windows?

Hi,
I've seen that people upscale movies to make them look better.
I wonder...
Is it the same as the TV upscale tech that the chipset does?
If so, then why not have a tv chip that does it automatically?
Thanks.

Anyone knows about a real time upscale program for windows?

I've heard about "Topaz Video Enhance AI", but I don't think it's for real time upscale.

Upscaling just means making the video bigger, just resizing your video player or going fullscreen will do that.

What you want is to do post processing on the video and there is no best when talking about video. Something that you think looks great can look like garbage to someone else.

Many video players on windows allow you to do some post processing or load shaders to do it or you can use something like avisynth to apply filters and play it in real time, assuming your computer is good enough.

But the easiest and an extremely good option is to use the renderer Porni suggested. You can tweak it to your liking and to how good your computer is since real time processing can be very demanding depending on what you do.

Anime and real content are very different so you might not get very good results if you watch real stuff with that shader. madvr upscaling has had a lot of thoughts put into it for many years so it will almost certainly give a better result if set right.

But you got nothing to lose in trying stuff out.

The upscaling relies on the power of the video card. If you have a very good video card (NVidia recommended) it will go much faster. I recently upgraded to a 3080ti which is close to top of the line and it's almost real time. My old card though (a 3060) would take almost 4 times as long. I also own Topaz and it does a pretty good job up to about double the frame width (when it gets too high you can see they don't look right). It all depends on the quality of the source though. You'll be able to upscale better quality source way easier since it has more details to work with. Low grade film tends to do a crap job at upscaling. It also cleans up footage nicely) so I will even run some 1080p film through it at the same resolution just to clean it up. Some old movies are 1080p but still look grainy and it fixes that issue.

Topaz looks simpler for me to use/install for windows.
It also has a sample enhancing of Babylon 5 :D

why upscale?it will change JAV MD5,so it is impossible to manage JAV via eMule.the only way for me to lossless upscale JAV is switch i3-2120 to i5-6300.

You can upscale in real time during playback without modifying the original file.

You can do that with even an extremely weak gpu, you just have to choose the best algorithm that your pc can handle.

Depends what you want. Every player can upscale a video, you just have to resize the player window, but they use fast and poor quality algorithm by default. Some players will let you choose better ones and some will have stuff like shaders you can apply to the video to do some processing.

But if you use mpchc or any supported directshow player, you can select madvr as the renderer and that has a really wide choice of real time upscaling and downscaling algorithms as well as many more processing options to make things look better. You just have to find the right balance for what your pc can handle with it.

I prefer madvr since it has many options and is pretty easy to set up, just install it, select it in mpchc and adjust the settings however you want. There's many guides out there about it.
The NGU stuff is based on the same nnedi3 thing porni mentioned and he was also the first to mention madvr. It can be a bit demanding though, but there's also other good options(and more versatile since it can only exactly double) if your GPU can't handle it.
