I don't really have a favorite, but A-O's the nicest community, so that's a plus. Hentai seems to always attract the asshole in all of us, probably because none of us likes to see a fetish which grosses us out and none of us likes it when other people call our favorite fetishes gross. Deep down inside, we're all insecure nerds. ;p Or something. Maybe I shouldn't project myself onto others (XD), but I'll at least say that on A-O I never feel attacked and I never feel the desire to attack others, and that's great.
I don't think there is such a thing as a non-forum non-imageboard website these days which isn't riddled with malware and solicitations for cash. I mean, there are a FEW places, like MasterBloodfer's site or SaHa's blog, but the former is basically an intentionally-obtuse imageboard which doesn't support user submissions and the latter is basically a weblog extension of 4chan because 4chan dumps threads too quickly.
As far as the chans go, bleh, the last good bastion (iichan) died a few months ago, at which point I quit going there. And by "died" I mean "became 4chan." A bunch of 4chan rejects saw what iichan had, genuinely liked it, forced their culture upon iichan, and perverted it into 4chan Jr. It seems like all the old iichanners either left or were mutated into 4channers themselves. Blah. If there were such a thing as an English-speaking imageboard which had new content posted to it every minute of every day, and if there were such a thing as that same imageboard being devoid of 90% of the hatred and stupidity one finds on 4chan, then sure, I'd love that imageboard. But no such thing exists: there's 4chan, and there's everyone else, and sadly 4chan has been perverting "everyone else" into mirrors of 4chan slowly-but-surely. Even the once polite-yet-xenophobic 2chan seems to have degraded into pure idiocy.
When you think about it, utopia is incompatible with trolls. For a utopia to exist, the people who disagree with that society's rules have to (a) not want to be a part of it and (b) have to lack any desire to troll it. By definition, a troll wants to troll. He violates letter B. He will sign up for that webforum, join that imageboard, whatever, and he will deliberately break the rules and make life miserable for the other utopians. The only way around the troll is a mighty hammer from the heavens -- but webforums, imageboards, and other digital platforms make it almost impossible to pull this off. The troll will just keep coming back, and he'll invite his buddies to come, too. The problem is (happily) still avoidable in the physical world, because: (a) there's a limit to how many human beings can occupy a finite space, and (b) you can be beaten up, maimed, or even killed by the conglomerate if you burst into their hideout and start to cause shit.
So having said that ... I guess I see A-O as the latest in my list of "hentai utopias" but I fear it's just a matter of time before it, too, turns into 4chan or is closed down for legal reasons (one or the other). Makes me wish that I could find a group of people to discuss hentai with in person who were not scary, scary, scary, scary, scary and batshit fucking insane. lol We wouldn't even have to give our real names. We could still have handles. But we'd just meet in the same clubhouse on Friday nights from 7pm to 9pm or something to discuss and swap hentai and porn on DVDs or USB sticks or whatever. And then that daydream makes me wish that I could do that with the people here, even though I know we're separated by the oceans. Sigh. Oh well.
