AV Collection thru immigration abroad

This is something that never occured to me before but, I'm going to be stationed in Malaysia for work few months. Did bit of research and apparently illicit pornorgraphy is illegal in the Muslim country, and can result in heavy fines and jail time. My AV collection spans about 6 external HDD and my primary laptop. Obviously iCloud storage is limited to host my entire AV collection. Am I being paranoid about being caught at immigration or is it a none issue? Apparently TSA has the authority to access your laptop, phones and drives. Passwords must be surrendered.

If you can't survive without your collection and you have some money to spend, the easiest solution is to store your movies on a Synology NAS (buy from Amazon) and use Plex to access your movies from anywhere in the world without travelling with anything but your laptop. It is extremly easy if you follow my little guide.

Quick guide for you:

1. At home, open Plex in a browser: app.plex.tv. Confirm your Synology Plex server is claimed by and signed into your Plex account.
2. In Plex, go to Settings → your server → Remote Access, then choose Enable Remote Access. If it turns green,

4. Leave Plex’s secure connections enabled. Don’t expose Synology DSM’s management ports to the internet just for Plex; the Plex port-forward is all you need.
5. Before travelling, disable Wi‑Fi on your phone so it uses cellular data, open the Plex app, and play something. That verifies true remote access.
6. Abroad, sign into Plex on your phone, laptop, streaming stick, or TV using the same account. Your server should appear automatically. For a browser, use Plex Web.

A few important notes:

• Your home upload speed determines quality. For a smooth 1080p stream, start Plex remote quality around 8–12 Mbps; use lower settings on hotel Wi‑Fi.
• Plex now requires a Plex Pass on either the server-owner account or your playback account—or a Remote Watch Pass—for remote playback of personal video on affected newer Plex clients. Plex’s current requirement.
• All you movies are stored on the HDD that are in the Synology NAS, nothing goes public. Plex is like your personal Netflix but for your porn addiction lol.

NAS seems like a good idea, but it's not access to data that I'm concerned about. The tenancy of my place will end when I leave. I won't have a place to store my private belongings. It has to come with me. I haven't heard much horror stories from Reddit about going thru immigration in Muslim countries. Normally they won't bother with digital storage. They focus on narcotics, drugs and contraband. Still the fine and arrest does worry me.

You could rent some storage space. A small locker shouldn't cost you that much. Of course that means you can't access it while you are abroad, but at least you won't riks them finding it and you getting in trouble.

So you're bringing everything you own with you to Malaysia, where you'll be for a few months? It seems strange to move to another country for just a few months and not have a place to store your belongings. But if that's the case, I would get a storage unit as suggested above since it's not worth risking arrest or deportation.

The higher ups may extend the duration of my transfer due to the nature of my work. Storage unit did cross my mind but insurance for theft coverage is limited. I care more about the data tbh.

It sounds real weird to be even discussing this lol. Normally I wouldn't give it a second thought if it was another western country. But there has been news of people getting visas cancelled for having Hentai on their phone of all things.
