That's Mbit.
A megabit is different from a megabyte.

Downloading at 16 Mbit, at least here in Sweden, commonplace.
Through fibre, we get 100Mbit unlimited for around 33€.
With DSL through the phone lines, we get 24Mbit unlimited for around 35€.
That's after our 25% tax.

I'm still on 20/3 Mbit DSL (18/2.3 Mbit effective), as fibre isn't available in my area yet.

I'm on 24/1 Mbit unlimited, paying around 37€(!).
Im also in Sweden and as Denamic said, you can get
100Mbit fibre here for less money than that, so my connection
is relatively expensive. You take what you can get.
But I'm very happy with my download speed , though I wish
they could at least up the upload, but then I guess they would wan't
even more money. Bastards! =)

Actually, 24/1 or 20/3 is pretty much as the DSL technology of today allows.
Of course, it can do more, but it'd put a lot of stress on the lines with many people using it at once.
With fibre, bandwidth is not an issue anymore, so it's both much faster and cheaper.

Indeed, fibre is the way to go and I hope it keeps getting
more and more available. If I were to move I would probably
first check what kind of internet connection is available in that
area before caring about how the apartment looked. But
thats probably not a good thing. =)

It seems like my inet provider offers 24/8 as the fastest option,
for more money of course, but I think i'm giving them enough
already and I don't feel like tampering with what I have.

I'm paying 61$ (inclusive of taxes) for an 8 MB/s connection through Comcast. Man, I wish Verizon's fiber optic lines were available near my area >_>
