Nope. My point is that Japan is NOT saying "international terrorists" at all - only "terrorists". And thus by singling out ONLY foreigners it's a fallacy, since the only people who've committed terrorist acts in Japan to date are the Japanese themselves.
:nosepick:
No, they are saying international terrorists and known criminals..
The Japan Times said:
The data are checked for matches on the Justice Ministry's no-entry list of foreigners with past criminal records and known international terrorists. Those with matching data are denied entry and face immediate deportation.

I totally get your point about trying to prevent terrorist activities from the Japanese themselves, but there's no harm in trying to prevent others from coming into the country..

Thanks for your input Guchi. Glad to see we're in agreement on that! (^_^)

To be honest, I have no problem giving my fingerprints and photograph to the Japanese government. I do the exact same thing at the Canadian embassy in Tokyo, only I go to THEM to do it. If the Japanese govn't wants to help get rid of those fucking Nigerian cock-suckers in Roppongi, then so be it. I've been threatened more than a few times by them for doing nothing more than NOT going into their shitty little bars.

As far as I'm concerned, bring 'Big Brother'. I've got nothing to hide. Shit, want me to pee in a cup to show that I'm not a druggy? That's cool. Oh, you want some blood? Tell me when to roll up my sleeve.

Let's get one thing straight here people....
The only people who should be afraid are those who are doing illegal things end of fucking story.

I've been living in Japan most of my adult life, and I was fingerprinted twice this month when returning to Japan from overseas. Doesn't bother me. I understand concerns about privacy, but frankly I think the U.S. government (at least under the current administration) is more likely to abuse such information than the Japanese government is. And I understand concerns about criminals or terrorists crossing national borders. This is part of an international movement. I don't see it as Japanese xenophobia.

As for the person who said Japanese are extremely racist, I bet you're white, aren't you? African, Hispanic, and Asian Americans have to live with that kind of annoying, subtle (and not so subtle) racism everyday, too. It's just that white Westerners are shocked to experience it here in Japan because they've never faced it in their home countries. I deal with it everyday. Get over it.

As for Calci, you're an ignorant, racist asshole. What the fuck do you know about Burakumin or Korean-Japanese? How many have you ever actually spoken to? All you know is racist stereotypes you've heard from other ignorant bigots. I have Burakumin friends and friends of Korean (both South and North) nationality who were born and raised in Japan. They're not the problem: the problem is hate-mongering bigots like you.

And congratulations, Calci: You're the first person on AO who has ever made me so angry that I've responded with words like "asshole" and "fuck". I usually try to be courteous and diplomatic to everyone, whether I agree with them or not, but you don't deserve that kind of courtesy.

Is that so? Too bad 99% of what goes on here at AO is illegal. Even in Japan. Or did you forget that?

Yeah, there's a lot of irony and some occasional hypocrisy here. Many posters suggest "there's no harm to fingerprinting" or "what's the big deal". I don't really disagree, but that's not the point. That same rule applies to a law banning everything here and then some. One such law has recently passed in fact.

Let's extend that further. The vast majority of people would not be inconvenienced by big brother surveillence either. It would absolutely catch a few terrorists, and it would do so even if only applied to foreigners - a win win because no Japanese would have their rights violated to gain this benefit. And look at the lack of real freedom of speech in China - no real harm done, just a lot of pent up frustration that's all. The same argument holds for "no foreigner" signs at establishments - it may violate your human rights, but what's the real harm? None.

I'm not so much against this law or fingerprinting, as much as some of the rationales being applied and the selective use of the law. As one person pointed out, they need to be fingerprinting everyone in Japan if they want to catch the terrorists and criminals.

I'm also not so much against policemen randomly stopping people and searching them either. Just against them doing so repeatedly to 1% of the population who fits a certain profile (typically Otaku) - which they've been doing for the last few years at JR stations in Tokyo. If you dress a certain way and are a male alone of a certain age, you will be repeatedly stopped at JR stations by undercover policemen.

All I'm asking for is some common sense and consistent application of the law.

How is it illegal? Are you dealing with kiddie porn? Are you from the USA where pirating movies is illegal? I'm from Canada where it is still fine and dandy (for the time being).

I'm just trying to figure out what these illegal things are that you pointed out.

Its a load of bullshit.. think logical.. why would terrorist go to an Asian country and not a Western one.. and secondly China is a threat to Japan militarily, economically and influences in Asia and there is a lot of Chinese and Indians living in Japan illegally (no offence to anyone) including western gaijins.

So the true meaning behind 'terrorism' is illegal migration into Japan, hence why this system is adopted in Japan recently.

Well, I was hoping to travel to Japan one day, but now it may not happen. So much for getting a Japanese girlfriend. But being American, it wasn't going to happen anyway...

Why do you say this? Were you going to commit some kind of felony while over there?

Yea, I had sort of thought about that as well. Why would he not want to go to Japan, or is he wanted in Thailand for banging one of the tweens that's on the sex-market down along the beach?

If not, why is he so afraid to give his fingerprints? HOLY CRAP, THE GOVN'T HAS MY PRINT! NOW I CAN'T STEAL MILK FROM 7-11 ANYMORE! ... good lord.

As I've said already, here, take my prints, do whatever you want with them, it's not going to stop me from enjoying my life and doing my own thing. OH wait... but what if I do something super illegal? Well y'know what? I don't plan on murdering anyone, bombing a city, or robbing a bank... I'm a business owner who pays his taxes in two countries, who is happy with his job, who loves what he does and who is all-round happy except when people who subscribe to the critical-race theory decide to march around saying how the government is going to murder them in their sleep! .... like these individuals are really that special... you're a person, a human. Y'know what? If the govn't REALLY wanted you out of the picture, they would have done so already. And what happens if they do? Well, that's just one less global mouth to feed, all the better for the rest of us.

But how about if _-I-_ am the one who is killed off? Well, all the more air, food and water for the rest of you. I accept that I am of a single species. This planet was here before me and will be here long after I'm gone so you know what? Not myself, nor anyone else is special in any way other than in our own minds.

OK... I should probably go to bed now... trying to re-think all that just confused me.
