Hm, sounds to me like there are criminal ties involved in all of this. ...
No.
Just old vBulletin forum software and too much precious data of all kinds you can't leave without erasing it because of members' privacy. For example. Get the idea. ;)

Maybe in 2016, today, we'd need a wikipedia-style place/forum to handle all the information about JAV and idol stuff.
Pictures and larger data stuff should be stored in type of clouds somewhere - and so on.

ryuuga: "Why not? Are you the owner himself? No. Did you work with scanlover? No. So the statement you posted in here are purely speculation."

I can't deny that I'm speculating, but I've been around on both sides of the adult industry (east and west) for longer than SLF's existence and have seen lots of sites come and go (boards, companies, sites, etc.). It makes no sense for the admin simply to walk away and shut the site down when I see in the SLF forum thread that there are people who are willing to pick it up from him. If he cared for the community and had offers from people to take it off his hands, not at least even entertaining them is very questionable thus again: big legal issues or possibly 'found Jesus'.

If he really just had enough, it'd make a lot more sense to give more than a paltry 2 week notice that the board is shutting down. Thus, I'm still inclined to believe there is a very big legal issue at stake which he may not be telling the admins about.

I see. Now I know why you inclined to believe there's a big secret behind the scene. It's all because that 2 weeks notice. I guess this is the point which most of you get confused, hence the misunderstanding. I should clarify this.

Actually, the idea of shutting down the forum was started since months ago. At that time, there's a lot of things to process. It was still in consideration. So we decided to keep this in private. Until scanlover made up his final thought on this, then we only announced it to the publics. Hence the 2 weeks notice. Why 2 weeks? Because scanlover will not have to pay the bills for June.

For anyone who think it was an impulse decision, or assuming that scanlover was forced to do so. No. That is not the case. In fact, it's been pondering since long time ago. And the staff have been talking about it for few months. No hidden secrets, no legal issue or any kind of threats. Just a simple "retirement plan" that have been pondering since months ago.

As for the reason why scanlover decided to plan his retirement, please check the 1st post in the announcmenet thread in SLF. He just updated the details in there.

Ryuuga (who is deserving of applause; he has certainly put in his dues) has offered another well-worded clarification:

From this soon-to-die link:

Creating a forum is easy. Everyone can do that.

The real challenge is maintaining the forum. And also facing those threats and complaints from the authorities (DCMA), consistently.

Still remember those big names such as Javtalk? They are vanished because of those threats. Even our sister site Akiba-Online also shut down once for a very long time before it could return and stand on its own feet again. Why? Again, because those threats. So ya. Those threats are very tedious and annoying. I already lost counts how many times we have dealt with them in the past.

It's not always about money and hard work. It's all about the long time consuming, sacrifices, patience, and the tolerance. Could you imagine how a single man could manage an ASIA THEMED adult forum for more than a decade? No you can't. Heck, even me, one of the oldest staff in here, do not know what scanlover's secret is. It's a miracle.

If anyone want to create a forum to carry on the scanlover spirit, by all means, go ahead. But I would like to advise you, please make it private. Trust me. Those complaints and threats are the last thing you want to deal with.

I am also a SLF refugee. Apparently I had joined this site before and I completely forgot about it. I was a member there for 6 years so it's sad to see it go. I'm sure this site will receive a tremendous amount of traffic now that SLF is closing.

While I'm registered on SLF , I'm not a regular there. I pretty much just go there to leech HQ photos :p
Just browsing on SLF most of the threads are about one specific idol. Whereas on A-O the topics are mostly centered on specific fetishes or genres, which IMO is better for discussion. Also the lack of U-18, U-15 stuff.

On that note if would be great if the individual idol threads were more active, you could promote more traffic to them by perhaps moving them closer to/into the JAV discussion forum.

Well, here's another SLF refugee -- one of those guys who really liked the 'Hitomi-centric' stuff at SLF. I've been a member here for some time as well but always found it difficult to get much on my favorite Goddess. If you search for 'Hitomi Tanaka' you get several pages of links to various downloads but not much discussion or gossip. Still, with the imminent closure of SLF I'm sure there will be some pure Hitomi threads popping up here and there (there's a nice one over at the BEA Forum). There are certainly enough Hitomi worshippers -- the 'discussion' thread total is 14 at SLF (sadly it will end there) and, all together, there were about 2 million views. At PlanetSuzy the still active Hitomi thread started by typhoona has had over 5 million visits! Anyway, looking forward to seeing what eventuates over here.
Thanks,
Elias

Hello everyone, new to A-O .. a long time in SLF.

Haven't had much of a look around, but have already noticed a few familiar members names here . Like the only person I know who can recognize an idol from just an image of her ear or boobs - Ryuuga

Not too hard to figure out who I am, but you may get a lick from Sora if you guess correctly. :D

And again, as for whether you guys trust me or not, I really don't care. The reason I posted in here is to answer some of your questions and doubts. I do not have to prove anything in here. Heck, I don't even have to post in here if I want to. But I insist to share those infos in here so that I can keep you guys updated. Also, more people will rush into A-O after May. This is kind of expected. I hope A-O members can be nice to the SLF refugees. Last time when A-O was shutting down (for multiple times), A-O refugees were welly accepted & welcomed in SLF. So I hope you guys can do SLF a favor, to accept those SLF refugees. Thanks in advance.

We do trust you, and I am sure most of us at A-O do as well, only a handful will have other agendas on there,
A Big Thank You from from us, for keeping us informed

welcome to all those refugees from scanlover, and there is space for all for you all to add your input as well,

as it seems most of you are interested in the JAV sections, we are always trying to inprove it, and make it easy to navigate, as for language it is meant to be an English speaking board, I will have to set up a guide to posters, so they can post properly, so it is understandable, (been talking about it for ages but not had the time to set it up)

main thing is take care Scanlover, and we all wish you a long happy future from Akiba

Quick Edit
I forgot to tell you, Ryuuga is a mod here, so those that continue with this persistant there is something behind it may find there posts will be deleted, as they are pointless and rubbish, and I cannot be bothered in reading over and over there is another reason.

Another wanderer from SL here. Member since 3 years ago. I wonder why SL isn't taking subscriptions or memberships. At $5 or even $1 per contributor per year, it should easily cover any costs of hosting. Legal matters are another beast entirely of course.

SL is like home. There is no other place like it. I don't download torrents. For me the nostalgia of seeing old faces in JAV, the faces I ... errrr .... grew up .... with many years ago is priceless.

Any one is restarting an SL like forum, I would be happy to contribute. I am not technically savvy but happy to contribute nonetheless.

I realise this is subjective, but imo SL has the best forum subcategories for any JAV forums.

Howdy all AO members and SLF refugees,

Brand new here to AO, forced to migrate from SLF.

I will be browsing AO to get to know the place first and then to understand what the differences are between AO and SLF.

SLF was my only source for Asian Cuties, so i have no other point of reference to compare to.

I hope either SLF can raise up from its ashes or/and hope to witness the improvement of AO to take over what SLF was and should have been.

Thanks,

For the SLF refugees and those pushing for the revival of SLF, please keep me in the loop for the next step, i just dont want to be disconected from the SLF spirit... And if it means AO is our new home, i would be happy to call it so....
But no matter what i need to know the direct successor to SLF.

I want to be part of the SLF "Phoenix" team...

For those who recognize my avatar, she was my favorite 16 years ago. For me, She represented this whole industry, even before i started knowing SLF in 2011.

Cheers,

Glad to know that my login still works. I found SLF from here actually and it is sad to see it go. Can we update some of the stuff here?

Another SL refugee here.

I wrote on SL earlier today I was a refugee from a different forum in 2008 called something like "jav-gold" or something. oh well.

I suggested everyone going to reddit, as there is a scanlover sub already registered.

Gah. Never knew I'd get to use my old lurking here for good. Quite sad to see SLF sink to the bottom of the ocean come the end of the month. Been lurking (and posting every now and then) since 2007, and it feels like losing a member of the family.

I have not been to SLF, much lately, due to being kept busy here, so I have forgotten how things was done there,

seems like JAV is the biggest problem to navigate, so we are always open to suggestions, I will start a thread soon after I post this and link it HERE, (inserted)

Cuties, we have many, but this is a Japanese board, so possibly, a lot of other cuties outside of Japan are not on here got one in my avatar and one on my sig though
