Minamoto Takashi, the director of 2005's Tokyo Tower, writes and directs the involving, often poignant Daiteiden no Yoru ni! Inspired by the 2003 blackout in New York City, Minamoto crafts an all-new narrative, revolving around the lives of a dozen different characters, as they cope with life and love in Tokyo during an unexpected power outage. Also known by the English title Until The Lights Come Back, this gripping tale takes place on a cold winter's day in December, just before Christmas. The twelve characters in question end up touching each other's lives in surprising ways, as the city comes to a complete standstill after a satellite goes rogue, damaging the city's power plant. This waiting period is utilized by the film's protagonists as a chance to take a good long look at their lives, as each seems to be suffering from some sort of personal heartbreak.
Will the characters rediscover their place in this world, make peace with the memory of their failed relationships, and learn to move on and live life to the fullest? Hope, it seems, still springs eternal - even in the dark! Daiteiden no yoru ni features a talented ensemble cast, including Toyokawa Etsushi (from Miike Takashi's The Great Yokai War and Kurosawa Kiyoshi 's Loft), Taguchi Tomorowo (It's Only Talk, School Daze), Harada Tomoyo (Ubume no natsu), Terajima Shinobu (Yamato), Kashii Yu (Hold Up Down), Kikkawa Koji (The City of Lost Souls), Abe Tsuyoshi (Public Toilet), Awashima Chikage (Chushingura), Hongo Kanata (Hinokio, Igawa Haruka (Mizuchi), Tabata Tomoko (The Hidden Blade), and Utsui Ken (TV's Gokusen)!
