Plot/Summary:
The first film by renowned minimalist director Ishikawa Hiroshi (Su-Ki-Da), “tokyo.sora” follows the lives of six young women as they try to find happiness. Small on dialogue and big on composition and emotion, “tokyo.sora” has become something of a cult classic for its existential atmosphere and refusal to toe the mainstream line of traditional narrative structure and quick pacing. “tokyo.sora” is a film that makes its audience take its time, immersing them in the lives of its characters.
Those that have seen director Ishikawa’s second and more well known film, “Su-Ki-Da,” will know what they are in for; gorgeous visuals, minimalist visual and audio stylings, and existential themes. The film is deliberately slow and quiet. For those with patience, it’s an extremely rewarding film experience.
