It is often theorized that the game was intended to be a direct sequel to Super Robot Wars Impact, since it includes several of the same series from that game. In this game, both main original characters, Hugo Medio and Aqua Centolm
share the same machine, though there is still a choice of which two mechs to use.
Another notable change in MX is that the Gundam Series did not take any of the major events through the game. In MX, other than G Gundam which loosely linked their endings and plots to the original storylines, the other Gundam productions almost solely exist in purpose to support other non-Gundam titles in the storyline. It departs from other SRW productions that conflicts between various factions of Gundam must be taken part as one of the main storylines.

Super Robot Wars Original Generations is a remake of the two Original Generation games for the Nintendo Game Boy Advance and is intended to celebrate the Super Robot Wars series' 15th anniversary. Replacing them in the official Original Generation continuity, thereby retconning the Game Boy Advance stories. Parts of the plot in the first Original Generation segment of Original Generations is derived from the animated Super Robot Wars Original Generation: Divine Wars, so as to follow continuity.
The game also includes a fair amount of new content.
