Hm hard to figure out. Maybe the install errors are due to a read error in your dvd/cd drive or scratches on the dvd/cd. You could try are firmware update on your drive or just try a different drive if you have one.
HL2 and DMoM&M are using the same engine but you have no problems with other games? (except the install errors )
Run dxdiag , maybe it gives you some error reports, and install an up-to-date Directx version (I think october 07 is the newest one) and graphics driver (169.02 for nvidia)
Oh yeah and a little advise, next time save your screenshots as jpg and put them on imageshack or somewhere else, compress them in a rar and upload it on rapidshare is a bit circuitous
