In September 2009, Kodo Dadan performances were held at Tokyo’s Setagaya Public Theatre where the curtain consistently came down to rave reviews. The explosive energy of each sell-out performance was met with a standing ovation, and all of the action was captured for release on DVD.
Without elaborate backdrops or adornment, the artistic director used the stage to its fullest, capturing every exciting detail of seven men as they deliver ninety minutes of non-stop drumming. With close-ups as well as a broad look at the full production, this recording is a complete look at the Dadan experience.
Dadan, which essentially means “men drumming,” is brand new approach and bold exploration of pure physical percussion that promises to remain enthralling to the very last beat.
