5cm per Second is a three-part movie that tells the story of two close friends, Toh­no Takaki and Shino­hara Aka­ri, who were sep­arated by cir­cum­stances that forced Akari to move out of town.

They try to over­come the phy­sical dist­ance between them by keep­ing in contact through email, but their ex­changes grad­ually become more and more infrequent.

As they leave their child­hood behind, Takaki still re­mem­bers the times they shared toget­her, and won­ders if he would ever have the chance to meet Akari again
