KAKOGAWA, Hyogo -- A drunk local government official has been arrested after allegedly sneaking onto the premises of a prison here in the early hours of July 16, police said.

The 24-year-old official of the Kobe Municipal Government, whose name was not immediately disclosed, stands accused of trespassing. He told investigators that he did not notice that he was on the prison property, according to local police.

"I had intended to go home," the official was quoted as telling investigators. "I didn't notice it was a prison."

At around 1:35 a.m. on July 16, the official climbed over the some 2-meter-high fence at the Kakogawa Prison before being overpowered by the guards, police said.

The official had taken a train to return to his home in Hyogo Ward, Kobe, after drinking in the Sannomiya district of the city's Chuo Ward, but apparently missed his station.

Wow... Surely, he would have to resign, right? Also, didn't he bring much shame to his family with his actions?

That seems a bit much to me. Personally I just found this an amusing anecdote.
