If you then see the chinese symbols, you can change there the encoding to UTF-8 and safe it, and after that you can open it in SubtitleEdit for further adjustments (if needed). From my experience the changing of the encoding in subtitleEdit does not work, this even brings it to a point of no return after saving. Try open the original file in Notepad++ (free editor).
