This probably isn't the case for the majority of people but for some its just the act of sharing that they enjoy. Posting things, filling requests, sharing content with others that gives them enjoyment. They do it because they want to, not because they expect something in return.

The first anime I ever saw was when I was elementary school age in the 80s, long before I knew what anime was / was too young to differentiate it from western cartoons. The shows were Battle of the Planets, Robotech (Macross), and Voltron. Years later in highschool I was re-introduced to anime...
