We generally pay a set price per title when licensing (plus monthly revenue share based on downloads and streams). Our license offerings to them are usually based on the fact that a title is about 2 hours. We offer more for 3+ hour movies since we split them into two updates (since it takes...
They used to be on DMM?
From what I can see going by the box covers on their official HP, their titles do not have Ethics approval stamps. I recall DMM making a rule charge a month or two back requiring studios to have Ethics approval for their titles or they won't sell them so this could be...
Hans: I'll input your request, but I can't promise on it. We'll be licensing more from WAAP probably later this year or early next year. 64 minutes is pretty short though.
We can't show vomit either unfortunately and gagging is a gray area.
As for why Yuu Kawakami doesn't reply to fans...
Dogma's on our radar, but it's not a studio we work with at the moment. The problem is their titles mainly are those dirty talk ones (which we're not only fine with subtitling but already do for other makers) and really hard BDSM which is walking on a line with western billing companies.
And...
Sorry there Supmop. Zero plans for orgy titles from here on out. Way too hard and frustrating to subtitle.
2 more studios on top of the ones already listed on the site will be announced at the end of the year. One's been around since the 80's and probably everybody knows them and the other...
Thanks for the comments, Hans and thanks for being an on-and-off subscriber.
Yes, I do work for them and have done most of the subtitling. Approximately 3 full movies a week.
"I gotta ask, how do you guys go about deciding what videos to translate?"
"Lots of old stuff with more or less...
Totally agreed with blah13 regarding music and games current state. Look at how many albums sold now makes an album chart compared to a decade or two ago. Games nowadays are much more F2P oriented. AAA gaming is starting to be seen as an outlier.
I do think JAV studios need to start adapting...
Thanks for posting the interview I translated. :)
Ganari Takahashi is a living legend. I'd love to meet him sometime.
My only bit of criticism is how SOD has not really tried that hard at pushing their products internationally like DMM does with R18. They're really missing the bandwagon at...
I doubt Mona had implants. Pregnancy often does a BIG number on the physique of women--especially with breasts and ESPECIALLY if they breast-feed.
Don't gauge a model's actual breast size by box cover art. You might be disappointed when you see the actual movie.
darksider59: regarding Paypal, you can use it for digital adult if you process for Epoch. https://epoch.com/paypal/
We use it for our main site and they're totally legit. It's a service run through Epoch using Paypal (with their permission) and it's not attempting to run around Paypal's ToS...
darksider59: I love metal too.
On the K-Pop note, I heard somewhere that there seems to be (little to) no issue with pants up to the ass-crack but gosh forbid a "performer" (I'm not calling these people 'artists' as few have any real talent outside of being good-looking) shows cleavage as THAT...
Motiman: "I don't know just how much of my payment goes to the actual studio and how much is DMM's share."
If it's a studio DMM owns, then it's pretty much pure profit (after credit card processor's cut which is probably around 5-10%).
If it's NOT a studio DMM owns--like a smaller studio not...
The physical cost to press a movie is pennies on the dollar. 2980 yen (or whatever it costs for the title) is not really taking into factor the physical costs since they're so negligible.
I agree that bonuses with physical media (ie, actual physical bonus like a Polaroid or just like a bonus...
I think part of the reason K-Pop is super sexualized is b/c porn is banned in Korea. I can't imagine what's more immoral: woman wearing pants up to their ass cracks gyrating each other on prime-time network TV or consenting adults having sex in a product that's sold only to adults*.
*yes, you...
I don't believe JAV is over-priced. I've seen many of these smaller studios and they are NOT rolling in dough. When a title costs $5000+ USD to make and historically titles in the same series may only sell a few hundred copies, selling for 2900 yen a pop ($30'ish) is reasonable.
Some people...
The people most against porn usually have the most to hide. You can almost guarantee the leaders of some of the countries listed above that ban porn have some extremely twisted Jimmy Savile'ish fetishes.
Encoding a HDV-filmed DVD in HD resolution would not look as good as an HD master rip. It may look better than a upscaled SD title, but not by much.
Some studios may only sell physical media in DVDs, but have HD for digital download online though some big VOD sites use questionable encoding...
Found it here (SD only): http://www.r18.com/common/search/searchword=Les-Noir/
Doesn't get any more major than that for a JAV site so it should meet your criteria. :)
Most studios now are at the very least filming in HD resolution, but may still only be releasing physical media in SD quality. I know two that have been filming in HD since 2009, but only started pushing out HD titles (instead of downscaled to SD HDV titles) just a few years back.
As for why...
Wait, what? https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/comments/2y1r0j/should_it_pass_the_internet_freedom_act_will/?ref=search_posts
From what I remember reading, this is more of an ANTI-net neutrality countermeasure by republicans such as Ted Cruz.
ding73ding:
What's important is protecting (at least temporary) NEW releases from uploaders and I think some of the tips summed up in the article address that.
DRM by itself is a pretty silly way to prevent piracy. If someone really wants to save it and upload it, they'll just screen...
Casshern: can't say, sorry. It's an indies one that mainly makes scat titles so I don't think it'd be popular w/ most users here.
Studios that push for digital first like BBMovies.jp also seem to fare better against uploading.
I'm pretty sure most people who buy movies have no intention of...
You may start see studios produce in Japan though I think the best is for them to literally produce discs on site or in a local factory where they can have a staff member present while discs are being made.
There's one studio in particular I work with that produces locally and although some of...
My apologies everybody. Feel free to steal.
Cum shooter: I'd use the quote feature if I could, but my device has some issues with A-O. It may be a SSL issue or something, but any type of navigation on this site lags on this end.
"Couldn't we pay for one account and then rip the stuff off like people do with some titles? Just a random idea."
That's exactly why so many adult companies (in Japan and elsewhere) are hurting and even closing shop. Even UraBukkake is now holding off on shooting new content (check their...
Motiman: you're right on how subtitling takes time and those AutoSub screenshots...wow.
1 minute of footage takes me 4-8 minutes to subtitle (timing and translation combined).
"Why are recent clips from urabukkake so hard to find around?"
Because maybe the people who are buying subscriptions don't want to 'share' it with those who don't? :)
Supmop: just like w/ Moodyz in the other thread, no idea! If it's pulled from SOD's official site, it's possible the actress backed out and asked/paid for the title to be removed from circulation.
Supmop: no idea regarding Moodyz. You should throw your questions at R18 (the A-O user) for that one. However, putting 2 and 2 together: since bus scenes are now proscribed, that wipes out a pretty big theme with the Bako Bako series. Not to mention it costs a crapload of money to hire on...
Everyone I talk to in the industry says rules are stricter now for harder content, but at the same time it's still being made so it's a kind of confusing situation. :)
r*** and scat and incest is just as common now as it was before I think. R18/DMM may have removed r*** and incest tags for...
Rezzonicco: probably best to make another thread for that. The concept sounds neat and I'd love to see it applied to a AV title. Only negative would be the machine translation quality. You don't have time to think too much when reading subtitles so if the translation seems off, you may be...
Mosaic's burned in. Techniques like this may make the image appear smoother, but it's not going to be what was actually filmed before it was added. You may end up seeing something that resembles a human vagina, but it's not going to be the actual vagina of your favorite AV star, but an AI's...
Totally agreed with shoes (ugh). OK, some people have the high heel fetish and that's OK, but nothing turns me off more than seeing women posing/having sex in bed WITH shoes (of any type!) on. It seems so unnatural and wrong!
Motiman: agreed with what you wrote up there. This is why when I sometimes read other webmaster forums (western ones) I get so confused why there's such a huge push for 4K content. For a special-effect laden major motion picture, sure bigger is better, but for sex? This is where higher...
Agreed on that mole. Not a cameraman here, but I don't see why they couldn't have shot her from the other side. Or airbrushed it out...put a band-aid on it...something.
Majorly off tangent given the thread's theme, but there was this awesome lesbian AV title released like a year or two ago...
On a more positive note, I count myself as one of her fans. I find her really cute as she has this really symmetrical face. I also dig her body which seems to have really good natural fat distribution (it's a weird thing to point out, I know). She has a physique where if she was just a bit...
alexkiallys: your 'idea' seems based totally on a baseless forum post from a computer BBS whose OP seemed to base his 'findings' on a few pictures of her crying. I won't argue with you any further as it's not worth my time.
alexkiallys: your 'article' is a post on a forum with a few pictures of her crying. That's not enough to decide she left porn b/c of abuse. For all I know, it's an emotional reaction from finishing up her final shoot.
Ai Uehara had a very long run as an AV star and decided to retire.
I...
princeali692: you bring up good points. I work in the Japanese industry but push content towards western audiences so I see both sides of the equation (though my industry contacts are 85% from the Japanese side of things). I agree that creativity's not so hot in the west. Most mainstream...
