Truth is that the country is a complicated place filled with people who are of differing opinions, etc. Is it more conservative in Kanagawa than in Yokosuka? Socially, probably. But it's that way in any country. But they eyes, they don't lie. Go to one of the military bases next time you're there in Japan (I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt that you've ever been), then tell me that what I assert was "bullshit." Agree with this 100%. Upon coming to the country I used to think so, but after living here for a sustained period of time and escaping from the foreigner bubble lifestyle somewhat, I've realised my old ideas were so far of the mark it's not even funny.
