Aside from the groveling, I've been using my headset with some moderate success, I can't use Skybox or some of the recommended programs in this thread since my aging phone isn't Daydream compatible, so it seems like I need to replace my G4 with something more modern which is a shame because it still works pretty well otherwise. I'll probably end up getting a Samsung though to be able to use GearVR.
Which headset do you use ? It seems that there are several headsets that can work with your phone but always with minor issues (alignement, ...). I bought a Samsung because I was sure to be able to use a Gear VR with the "best" mobile VR technology. I found a Huawei few days before buying my Galaxy S6 Edge Plus that was VR Ready but as the headset wasn't (like any other models on the market except for Samsung) from the same brand, I was a bit skeptical (not to mention that some features were missing for the range price).
To give you an exemple, I bought my Galaxy S6 Edge Plus (I wanted a big screen) 310 euros (second hand but no scratch or anything). I bought the Gear VR (for the S6 Edge Plus there is a specific one as the phone is bigger) 50 euros online lol.
Google Play Store told me my brand new Galaxy S8 was not compatible with Skybox. So I had to go into the Gear VR app and download it through there. I wonder if you have a way to get to store apps from within your head gear and try installing that way?

Even if you did get Skybox to install on an older phone, it probably won't play vids smoothly. In my case, a note 4, it was able to load up just about any vid, but I had issues with playback. It would be choppy when looking around. So either you need better specs like a note 5 minimum, or skybox hasn't optimized it for older generations.
Edit: Checking now, looks like the G4 came out after the Note 4, so it might have better specs. Also, if you search G4 and Nougat, a lot of stuff comes up. There could be an update coming up if you're patient enough.
Casshern got the new S8? Niceee...hope you start getting those higher resolution VR vids. Those 1600x1600 vids are not worthy of that glorious S8 screen.
