Genius Party Beyond (2008)

Genius Party (2007) and Genius Party Beyond are collections of short animation films by various directors and under the supervision of Studio 4°C. Beyond actually consists of the movies that were not ready for the release of the first part.

In Beyond there are five segments:

First up Maeda Mahiro’s Gala delivers a fantastical symphony reminiscent of the dream worlds of Miyazaki Hayao. Nakazawa Kazuto packs the hyperactive Moondrive with wry sight gags and a frantic energy that seems to burst from the screen, following the inept exploits of a gang of treasure hunters. The freeform animation of Ohira Shinya’s “Wanwa” the Doggy illustrates the fevered imagination of a young boy, full of toys, candy, cute puppies, but also a menacing ogre. Tanaka Tatsuyuki’s Toujin Kit presents a paranoid dystopian world in which secret police hunt the creators of strange inter-dimensional beings. Finally Studio 4°C co-founder Morimoto Koji contributes the intense mood piece Dimension Bomb, which, true to its title, explodes into a mass of otherworldly visions.

Unfortunately there are no subs available for Beyond yet. Three of the five segments are easily understandable without them though, either because they don't have much dialogue to begin with or because they are incomprehensible even if you understand what is being said . So you can enjoy just the images and music, especially in Gala and Dimension Bomb.
