are both the upconverts of PL 1 better than the 848x480 ones?

according to Digiket release date of Shinsho Genmukan 4 is 9/22. Haruka 3 is supposed to be out now too right?

720x480 and 704x480 are the only "correct" resolutions. It is what the DVD uses. Most groups have been using it for years ever since it was possible to display them in the correct aspect ratio without manually adjusting it in your player.

848x480 is upscale. 704x396 is downscale.
The only reason why people used 704x396 to begin with, is because AVI did not support displaying 720x480 in 16:9 aspect ratio. MKV and MP4 eliminated that problem.

so even if i were to make a proper resoluton version in mkv or mp4 then convert it to avi it would simply get resized or not convert at all?

since the versions that have been coming out are in mkv and mp4 only i wonder why no one is sticking with the original resolution

If you tried to convert a MKV or MP4 (at the original resolution) to AVI, you need to resize it.
Otherwise, if you played the file, the aspect ratio will be wrong and the image will look stretched.

All the major fansub groups that have been around for years will only release DVD in 720x480 or 704x480 (no resizing).
You only need to resize to 848x480 or 704x396 if you are encoding into AVI (like the RAWs you find on the internet).

If you compare 2 files with the same filesize, let's say... 350MB.
The 704x480 file will look about 20% better than the 848x480 in terms of compression quality. You'll notice when there are high speed action scenes, that the 848x480 file will be much blockier.
That is because the 848x480 file, even though it has a higher resolution, is an upscale of the original at 704x480. It does not benefit from the larger resolution, instead you loose quality from compression.

In this case, the Princess Lover RAW is 273MB. If it was encoded at 704x480 instead, you will most likely get "better" quality at 219MB.

Anyway... Long story short.
You will most likely never see RAWs encoded properly, because the experienced encoders work with fansubs.

if anyone is still interested the Salender version is probably the best one right now. they solved the 16:16 problem.

always this information desaster at other sites about Shinshou Genmukan - let me please state it clearly...

this is the first time in history that there is a big difference between download files and DVD releases. Atm it seems as if we will have at least 4 download releases via DLsite (if not even more later) - giving atm 2 DVD releases.

The first DVD named Epilogue 1 = episode 1 = 30 mins release consists of these 2 download files - 15 mins each:

The download files indeed are HALF EPISODES and the DVD´s will contain FULL EPISODES !!!

One of the main problems seems to be that the uploaders (and most of the downloaders) really don´t know this and so their files are named wrong.

atm the correct names for the DLsite wmv-files should be:

(18禁アニメ) 真章・幻夢館 Epilogue 第一話～夢と告白～ (1-1)
(18禁アニメ) 真章・幻夢館 Epilogue 第二話～告白と迷走～ (1-2)
(18禁アニメ) 真章・幻夢館 Epilogue 第三話～愛と真実～ (2-1)

and for the 4th file this week:

(18禁アニメ) 真章・幻夢館 Epilogue 第四話～真実と護るべきもの～ (2-2)

if you rename your files this way everything will become clear...

? there's no need to combine them. they are all individual eps, hence the different titles. the only reason they put 2 eps in 1 dvd is cause it would be absurd to sell them individually. the duration of 1 ep is just half of that of a normal ero anime episode.

the DVD´s clearly are named Epilogue 1 and Epilogue 2, not Epilogue 1+2 / Epilogie 3+4. There is no hint at the DVD covers that the DVDs are containing two episodes, at least I cannot see any, and all their other releases, even the 15 mins ones like the Isshoni H Shiyo 一緒にHしよっ episodes, all have been sold as SINGLE DVDs.

There of course is the different jap. namimg of the 4 parts as 第一話, 第二話, 第三話 and第四話, which means 1, 2, 3 and 4.

But normally is makes no sense then to have different titles for both kinds of releases. It is normal for Chichi No Ya releases though to have a length of 15 mins.The only release not confirming to that standard ever was the re-release of Snow Night Stories - Yuki Yoru Ichiya Monogatari 雪夜一夜物語 as Inyoku Emaki ~Yukiyo ni Hime wa Okasareru~ 淫欲絵巻～雪夜に姫は犯される～ with a complete length of 45 mins in 1 file, opposite to schoolzone´s original release.

they simply opted to join the titles. dvd 1's title is 真章・幻夢館 Epilogue.1 ～夢と告白と迷走～. 夢と告白 is from 1 . 告白と迷走 is from 2. i guess they figured it would be weird to name it Epilogue.1 & 2 ～夢と告白と迷走～. they used the same style for DVD 2.

I have the DVD. There is only 1 set of ending credits. It is joined seemlessly into a single episode.
Part 2 takes place immediately after part one. Nobody would notice it was 2 episodes unless you saw the DLSite version.

Although not part of the main episode, it contains a lengthy text recap with scrolling text of the events before the OAV takes place along will a couple of still images that look like game CG.

The title screen has also changed. Unlike the DLsite version, it reads "Epilogue 1". The title for the episode has also changed.
I would assume the 2nd DVD would have it labeled "Epilogue 2".
There may be other cosmetic differences, but I do not have time to compare.
