People living in Japan or who been there for a significant amount of time, how true does the article ring with your experiences? Do many Western Japanophiles overestimate how much Japanese people are into martial arts, gaming, manga, anime, and action flicks?

Grown men can't enjoy comics, and that's a "problem".:haha:
What the authors really mean is that Japan was never conquered enough for their liking.
It's no issue in the US, of course, where everyone sucks their thumb until death.
