Mkokp, thank you so much for offering your thoughts, particularly since you've never done so in the past here on Akiba-Online (which we may see because you were kind enough not to hide your profile. At least not yet. I am going to deflower you with your first "Like").

I'm afraid I'm not able to make much sense of the reasons you have provided as to why one would choose to hide one's profile. I suppose the closest thing we have here on Akiba-Online to "friends" are your followers, and whom you are following. I can't see why anyone should judge us for our followers, or for whom we are following. If they do, who cares.

As for the disaster scenario, your identity being exposed, if one feels that they have written embarrassing posts, you could then use the nuclear option: the deletion of your account, which I presume (although I'm not sure) would delete past posts. If account deletion would not obliterate your past posts (would be wise to check with a moderator before taking that drastic action), then you would do what Qwer1135 was thinking of doing once he felt uncomfortable, editing each post to effectively delete each post.

Yet the odds of your identity being exposed are next-to-nothing, so aside from being unreasonably paranoid, I still don't see any reason why a member would choose to hide his profile. (Remember, hiding one's profile does not hide what one posts. Just place the member's name in the "Posted by Member" spot of the search function, and all of that member's posts will be revealed.) So far, Demonknight has provided the best explanation: "No rhyme no reason."

You know... the main thing I was curious about was not so much hidden profiles, but...

How Come in Some Members' Profiles......We can learn the last activity... and in other members' profiles we cannot?

I suppose only a moderator would know the answer to that question.

Well here must lie the difference between us. I have made several friends with whom I have shared emails and various other social media identities. If the opportunity arose, I may decide to meet for a drink and a chat someplace. I consider these people 'Friends' in the true sense of the word.

A quick look at the account settings has lead me to find two options, one to hide when I am online, and another to hide what I last did online. So its a user option that some people have selected.

The 'Recent Activity' tab seems to be controlled by the 'Receive your news feed' option in the Privacy settings. There appears to be no way to hide the 'Postings' tab however, short of hiding your entire profile.

So yeah its all user based from what I can tell, no special settings decided my mods (unless they suspend certain member privileges of course)
