Microsoft wants to try the same thing than is
doing Google and it will do a very aggressive way.

Just create an email account of Microsoft for use
Windows 10 and every time you use Windows 10
Microsoft he will always spying, recording everything
that the user is doing every time you turn on your
PC with Windows 10 running.

This is very serious because it violates privacy user.

Please .. careful with this .. our intimate personal
data they will be used, and used without ask
permission by microsoft and it is disastrous finally
Windows 10 operating system.

It is the ideal time to go to Ubuntu (Linux)
And stop use Windows forever.

Windows 10 left 6 years of life nothing more.

Regards.

It's the same like having an Android device. There you also have to create a Google account.

At the moment I don't upgrade to Windows 10 (have Windows 7 Home and Windows 7 Starter). I don't want to invest a whole weekend just for the process as I don't think I will have any benefit from it. The only thing would be DirectX 12 - which I don't need. The last actual game I bought for my PC... I even can't remember it. I'm not sure if I ever bought an actual game for my PC since I have it (means my current PC). And I bought it maybe 4 years ago. So...
But I will buy a notebook soon. And the chances are high that Windows 10 will be preinstalled by then.

I just got windows 10 (8.1 had become mysteriously corrupted), so far it seems I can turn a lot of the tracking stuff off but it cripples a lot of features, most of which I don't want anyway. I'm just trying it out before reverting back. Or maybe I'll keep it and this will be my "clean" computer.

It basically 8.1 without the stupid full screen start menu and Cortana, which you can't use without turning on a lot of those tracking/spying features.

The last few weeks I saw a lot of articles that Windows 10 sends a lot of data home. And it's really hard to stop it from doing so.
Some people on the Internet also said that Windows 10 is the best service pack for Windows 8 / 8.1 as it brings back some features (is that a product feature? To bring back features you removed one version before? Or is it just kidding the customers?), but it also removes a few.

If it's corporate spying on your personal data that you are worried about, Ubuntu could be a horrible choice without some tweaking.

Ubuntu, a widely used and influential GNU/Linux distribution, has installed surveillance code. When the user searches her own local files for a string using the Ubuntu desktop, Ubuntu sends that string to one of Canonical's servers. (Canonical is the company that develops Ubuntu.)
https://www.fsf.org/blogs/rms/ubuntu-spyware-what-to-do

Now, I'm not saying that I believe everything Richard Stallman says, since he does seem to have quite the agenda against every program that has even a single line of proprietary code. But this is a well documented example where he's not just spewing garbage in favor of the GNU operating system.

To disable the spying, see this http://www.howtogeek.com/126995/how-to-disable-the-amazon-search-ads-in-ubuntus-unity-dash/
Any of the flavors of *buntu with that code removed could be good. Personally I like Fedora, since I'm well versed in Cent and Red Hat, and it runs quite well on my old laptop.

This is interesting. I'm a huge fan of Ubuntu. But I have to admit I always work with the server version without the XServer / graphical interface. So I never used that search until now.

Thanks for the link to the article.

So many questions. Does windows do that? Is this a new thing with Ubuntu? What's a good alternative to Ubuntu?

Not new, at least around since 2012. You may shift to Debian. Or Tails ;)

A colleague of mine has now Windows 10 on his computer at the company for testing purposes. And he also tries to use Edge. That browser is the biggest bullshit ever. He showed me a few things and I have to say: I never would use it. Okay, maybe the usability will change in the future. But at the moment I recommend to use a different browser if you have to work with Windows 10.

I just upgraded from W7 like 2 hours ago. The amount of crap in the settings that "phones home" is obscene. I turned them all off but I still feel like they are watching everything I do on my PC, can't a man just watch porn in peace.

They are for my office. Needed a lot more power so I went to i7 with 32 gig ram and high end vid card for autocad and photoshop.
Actually windows 10, if set up properly, is better than 7 and it only takes a short time to figure your way around.
Some minus' are getting the permissions to edit certain files on the os which I am working on.

If you went and actually paid for windows 10 and you have used windows 7 I won't bother to argue your opinion on which is better. I will stick to an operating system that has been around a while though, myself, as it suits my meager purposes.

Did you go prebuilt? What vid card? did you consider dual vid card setups? what motherboard did you end up with? what type of i7? Do you have one of the new 6th gens?

I only have a modest set-up myself but I chose the components and the box and built it for around a grand last year, (still managed to blow my GPU but I have a much more powerful one in now and it runs fine).

A lot of businesses are/were having problems with windows 10, heard from them myself. So even after I found out how to shut off windows 10 "securty holes" I chose windows 7 and only had to tweek it a bit. A lot of software wasn't compatable with windows 10, at that time anyway, and people were pissed when they upgraded their operating system and their business software wouldn't run on it (real estate, insurance and government offices, that is including schools, were affected). Working on the help desk for microsoft must be considered "job security" type of employment. I would love to have a few drinks with one of those guys after working hours and hear how they really feel.

Remember that microsoft is a business, they are in it for the dollar. But I am old school and I don't sell quite so easily. Every year car makers come out with new model cars and sure, they make some improvements but I get around just fine in an older model. A better example is aspirin. Go to any pharamcy and you will see multiple brands....all selling the exact same thing...at different prices. Aspirin is aspirin bro, you can buffer it so it digests a little easier but there is no real difference no matter how you spin it. An Operating System that serves its' purpose is one that works. Until you have the need for software that just won't run on what you have installed, the time to change your OS likely has not come yet.

Personally I wouldn't touch W 10 with a 10 foot pole.

Recently they've also been adding (more) tracking methods to Win 7&8 disguised as recommended security updates and pop-up ads to "upgrade" to 10 as well.

If you've done these updates, I'd follow a guide to remove Telemetry from your PC.

Some links are:
http://techne.alaya.net/?p=12499
https://gist.github.com/xvitaly/eafa75ed2cb79b3bd4e9
https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/comments/3g7hr0/removing_telemetry_from_windows_7_and_8x/

I think that they are overstepping their bounds big time here, because they feel empowered by their big market share.
And I hope it comes back to bite them in the ass.

They are, a lot of the phone home features can't be disabled, at least not through the GUI.
Though Microsoft says it can be disabled in business licenses, so ppl should probably pirate those instead :p

The problem for a lot of people are eventually going to be that DirectX 12 will be Windows 10 exclusive. So eventually anybody who plays any games are going to have to switch, hopefully by that time people have figured out how to disable ALL the E.T phone home crap.

MS violates our privacy only if they're violate their own https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/privacystatement/default.aspx and https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/servicesagreement/

If you read Microsoft Privacy Statement you should know that MS collect data if you use any of their services and if you read Covered Services in Microsoft Services Agreement you'll know what MS mean by "services" (hint: MS Windows is not a service).

If you use Onenote of course MS will have your note ... it's cloud based service.
If you use Cortana of course MS will know your phonebook, schedule etc ... she have to give you alarm/reminder based on all that info.

Don't waste your time for some conspiracy theory BS ... if you don't want MS "spying" on you just don't use their services.
If you have real proof that MS violates their own Privacy Statement and Services Agreement I suggest find a good lawyer and sue MS ... if you can proof your claim in court you could get early retirement money ;)
