As of this minute, all posts for any download links on akiba-online must contain a ryushare link. You can post other hosts too, but it must include ryushare link(s). This includes all replies to DDL threads.

All other rules, like the "no premium-only posts" rule or the double post rule still apply.

Posts or threads found to be violating this new rule will be deleted, and repeat offenders will see infractions followed by suspensions or worse. :sadomaso:

This rule includes all DDL subforums.

If you see a thread or poster violating this rule, please use the report button.

As someone who mainly posts torrents, this doesn't really impact me. But why Ryushare? What does AO gain from having this rule in place? :puzzled:

Money to pay for the server bill. Of course we can accept donations to avoid such partnerships. :joker:

I like this idea. Akiba gets paid, and we have a reliable way to download.
At one time i had three different premium accounts, and a premium usenet account.
This is a big improvement.

And what about the issue of Ryushare free links often timing out when 'click here to download' link is pressed?

Also it sounds strange to choose this particular filehost whose Paypal account was limited only 3 months ago and has two or three front page links leading to 404's. I've seen the signs before, and it all leads to the make money fast, disappear (or are taken down) after 1-2 years scenario. It doesn't make sense that Akiba would want to create a sort of official relationship with them. If they go down, Akiba would be severely affected, sounds like a big risk.

That is the official line? First time in the history of Akiba-Online this has happenned and it is because of server bills? Ryushare gave Chompy too good of a deal for him to pass up sounds like to me.

No skin off my back. I hope the transition to this goes smoothly and the moderators don't get much extra hassle over this. I also hope no posters leave for other forums because of this either and they all are able to abide by this. Best of luck AO in this and future endeavors.

It seems Ryushare will not accept Premium payments if you have backed it with U.S. funds (PayPal, VISA, etc.), even through a VPN. I haven't gotten a response from them (sent a month ago), but this shuts out U.S. members. Was that your intent?

You probably wouldn't say that if you know how much Chompy paid for maintaining the forum for almost 6 years.

Perhaps the official line doesn't good enough for every member to comprehend this new policy. Let's just say in this way. If we don't accept this offer, the forum probably would be closing soon, sooner than we ever expected.

If a forum of akiba's size and traffic is not making the $7,000-$12,000 a year it takes to run a forum this size through normal advertising routes, then something is seriously wrong.

The money is not the biggest factor in here. The most concerned issue is that whether the boss is willing to sacrifice his time to continue to run this place or not. It's not easy to maintain forum for such a long time.

Since now there's 2nd party willing to offer an amount of money (with condition of course) that could support the forum for a short period of time, then why not we just take it and give Chompy some relief for a while? Not to mention that this is his forum, we shall respect whatever decision he mas made.

that problem with most filling share companys they dis the u.s. over the fact they do not want same issue that other company's had. if that is truee they shut out u.s. members it not good thing and something should be done so we all get far share.

Ryushare links can be premium-only if you provide one or several free mirror(s), that can be from Ryushare as well or from another filehoster.
