People sound more concerned about what their loosing, I agree it sucks. But I would think they should be more concerned about the fact that these sites are now under investigation and the server log files are now being confiscated for evidence. What about all the user / member IP address in those log files that got logged during download sessions? ya, scarey. Even if you're not from the US, there is a new global collaboration between enforcement agency's worldwide from what we're seeing. I'm thinking, we're getting to a point where websites need to start generating dynamic PHP kind of pages on decentralized networks. this goes for DNS resolution also. Then these government czars can go fuck them self's looking for ghosts since they want to control everyone.

so, in other words, you would say they will run after me because of downloading something illegal by analyzing those log files?

To be honest, I think they're loosing money somewhere other than from what you're downloading, and unless you have money like the CEO of Mega, you might not be worth their time. you would hope.

Once again: Sopa was rejected for the time being, it nothing to do with the Megaupload case.
It seems like Fileserve and Uploadstation are allowing uploads and downloads again, but since all files are gone and affiliate programm closed, I don't know if this is good news.

Depositfiles doesn't pay for US traffic anymore and only links with a referral Site are counted, that means if you write your links in
Code:
you won't earn any money.

Earning money is what will get you in trouble. It would be a better deal if when you're shearing something with copyright to have the option to opt out of making ANY kind of money on it. If file host's are paying you for what you're sharing, or even traffic generated from that content ..which IS what's bringing in the traffic ..that's where they get ya, cause you're making money on something that can't be resold multiple times. But the bullshit of it is, what evidence do they have that all users where doing this to have the authority to shut everything down. Hopefully they didn't totally delete all user accounts who ever had one with Mega, that would be over the line.

Sorry for going off topic

What good Asian shows? I must be missing something. I am asian my self, the stuff I watch includes China mainland tv,Hong Kong TVB,korean dramas and japan dramas. 99.9% of the stuff they crap out is totally shit compare to american tv that is on HBO or SHOWTIME.

Then there is regular american tv, I would take those kind of crap over the crap that is anything asian tv.

Right now I am watching this new series call Lucky 7 it is a jdrama, I have yet to see anything interesting, just the same cliche crap over and over.

Well, maybe I find some Asian shows interesting because it's a culture different than mine, but my point was that Asian stuff being uploaded to the internet do not affect America and their entertainment industry in any way, shape or form. Call me silly but to me, anything with cute girls is interesting. The one thing I appreciate about Japan, Korea and other Asian countries when it comes to females is simple and yet blissful; legs legs and more legs. That's just my sincere opinion.

I don't think they'd bust into the house of more than, let's say, 400 million people around the world to imprision each and every one of them for online piracy.

I don't remember this stuff happening before OB got in office, Marxists want to control. His father was one, and he gives praise to him in his book, Dreams from my father. We know what his father's political philosophy was about. This book is regarded as a book that represents who Obama is.

I guess you've never heard of Napster, then.

Remind me never to listen to political advice from anyone who posts in the downloadable candies thread. :evillaugh:

What about eMule using the Kad network? Or maybe something like Freenet? :study:
Yeah..people should all move to Freenet. I just saw an "Akiba-Online" channel in Frost there. Best of all, it only takes about 2 months to download 1 ISO.

No chance of Freenet ever being shutdown..I think.
I installed Freenet this week. And all I can say about it: It looks very very very safe. Even for paranoid people there are enough options. The sad things is: that is all I can say. From the point of usibility this is the worst program I saw in the last few years. DirectConnect, eMule, JDownloader, etc. - they are all a lot easier to use. I guess security has its price.

Regardless of that I guess a kind of darknet is the future of sharing and free internet. Especially if I read news like that: Obama Signs Internet Treaty Worse Than SOPA.

"it only takes about 2 months" - is there some irony in this sentence? Yes, that is also part of the price of Freenet (and I guess every darknet): It takes a lot more time to find downloads and to download. You don't have any search function for files (at least I didn't find any), you have to have the link to the file (e.g. like that: http://127.0.0.1:8888/CHK@BlCQ9cqREyEq1TW3wgGdscguhkGpOS1nnFZAjqDpfJ4,9nLoU1Ij6xhpXcfMpz6lnv3hXBCUHwSvliHZ4YI0e4s,AAIC--8/xvideos.com.Milf%20masturbating%20in%20front%20of%203%20guys%20getting%20her%20nipples%20suc%20-%20XVIDEOS.COM.flv). At that point you can start a download. But that doesn't mean you will get the file. If you neighbour nodes don't know it you can't download it. If you don't use Freenet in open mode but in darknet mode (only friends allowed) you chances will even shrink more.

About torrents and piratebay: The problem about the torrent technique is that you have a central point called torrent tracker. It doesn't hold the file itself, but is needed for the clients to exchange their informations (not the file itself, but information like the own IP and so on). So if you bring down the tracker the clients are not able to find other clients which means they can't download from each other. The next point is that the tracker knows all the IPs of the clients. And even the clients which participate in the file exchange know the IPs of some or even of all other clients. So you have similar problems like if you use eMule or filehoster.
The Pirate Bay belongs to the Missionary Church of Kopimism. So I guess they don't have to give away any logs or whatever. But there is still the problem that people who are interested in the IPs can also use a trorrent client to get these informations.

That may be true for MU & Hotfile, which are both having legal troubles, but here's something people should be aware of. Most site servers are set to overwrite the server logs after a set period, the average being 48 hours.
Any file host not under investigation has no pressure to keep their logs, & I'm sure they are happy to let them be overwritten, as that will take them off the hook in case of any future problems.

If I had a MU account full of copyright-protected content at the time their domain was seized, I would be worried, but I've seen too much fear-mongering based on analysis of server logs of file lockers who (at time of this post) have no reason to preserve those logs.

The reason they are overwritten is because of the immense storage space that would be required to keep server logs for just one busy site after a period of several months.

IMO, it's not worth it to worry about logs from file lockers who are under no legal pressure to preserve or give up their logs. It's in their interest to continue to allow those logs to be overwritten every few days.
Also, if you had a MU account in the past, & only used it to download, there's probably nothing to worry about if you haven't used it since the time a few days before the MU domain was seized.

And one final thought: if you can still access an account with a file locker that will only allow the uploader to download, you may want to access the account & delete whatever you have in it that might make you nervous if you suddenly can't access the account anymore.

It's funny how this SOPA thing is suppose to be about stopping on line piracy by blocking DNS servers. come on.. who are they selling? Like the guys using these torrent sites don't know how to get to these sites without DNS?

I'm not very sure, but if he is a true Marxist a.k.a Communist,
he would be pleased to let everything including copyrighted stuff for free,
'cause those people want everybody to share everything they own.

If somebody really wants to control,
he would then have to be called a dictator or something like that, not Marxist.

Well, possibly in some countries or for some people,
the meaning of the term could differ, thou.

Surely the average downloader doesn't have much to worry (especially when located outside the US). But those who profited big time from payment programs may be targeted to make an example of them. Most likely it will be those who shared big Hollywood movies or other stuff that is heavily demanded, I guess some JAV will not bring that much money in comparison. Although, as soon as there is a money trail to follow, this will be much easier to track down than just one IP accessing a file at a given time (as someone stated, those log files are probably overwritten/deleted pretty quickly).

Someone mentioned that they are mainly after American stuff; that might be correct and it certainly is more money for them; but ACTA was drafted between the USA and Japan originally; so Japan wants to protect something as well, although I originally thought of Anime related stuff. Time will tell what will come of this. But it certainly won't make things easier for us.

what would happen if someone just posted a movie or music to usenet and DIDN`T try to profit from it. what if people just bought one movie or music and SHARED IT without PROFIT think they would shut usenet down? the problem is not the laws BUT TOO MANY PEOPLE MAKING MONEY OFF SOMEONE ELSE`S WORK PERIOD. i bet mega had the same file on it`s site posted by ten different ppl and maybe only one actually bought it legally.

Why NOT adapt Paypal's donation feature?

https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/?cmd=_donate-intro-outside

Although 99% of the file-hosting companys have closed their affiliate program most of them still offer file sharing and some of them offer direct download link like mediafire, hotfile and rapidshare etc.

Once a downloader donates a certain amount and provide his Paypal ID for confirmation, an uploader could then provide the direct download link for a given time etc.

I know that there will be a lot of hesitance at first but if the uploaders share a large number of files free for a start I am sure it would work!

yeah, it would! instead of just having your files deleted you'd end up in jail.
and... Paypal for that kind of business? are you serious?

So what seems to be the best file host now? I have ORON still and it works, but its slow as hell. Rapidshare seems to work. But that is so confusing. What seems to be the best all around one still left?
