Is this type of action in the best interest of AO? I came across a member who admited to posting a torrent (and apparently he has been accused of this before) without telling anyone it was a dead torrent. When questioned about it he said he was posting it in order to get seeds. WTF? I reported his post but maybe we should have an official or unofficial ruling on this.

Somehow this doesn't make sense to me: If there is someone seeding the movie that person is seeding it. And if someone has the movie, but doesn't seed it anymore because that person removed it from its torrent client, it will be hard to add it again just having the movie file and the torrent because all the other files which are shipped with it are missing.
In this case it would make more sense to re-share the movie by creating a new torrent file and posting this.
    Or I'm wrong?

And in addition it is nonsense - like Ceewan already mentioned - because he didn't add any info that the torrent is dead and that he added it for the given purpose.

Actually you can reshare a torrent if you have the correct data (credit to Rubiks6):
Yeah, I don't understand the concept myself of reposting dead torrents, unless you are adding spam to them. That was sometimes the case but not always here so I can't say for sure what the actual reasoning was. Most people just ask for a reseed on the original torrent.

if it starts becoming a major problem, then we will have to delve into this deeper

Yes, you can. But as you said: You have to have the right movie file. And as most of the torrents unfortunately also contain some extra files (infos about the group or guy which created the torrent) people won't be able to download 100%. So you would have to keep track of your torrents manually than just looking for the ones which are completed. Or you have to exclude the additional files from downloading each time manually.

Yes, the entire group of files in the torrent are, when the torrent is created, broken into pieces, each piece consisting of blocks. And if a torrent contains more than one file and someone wanting to reseed has only one file, it is possible, and likely, that a piece on the edge of the large file, the video file, is composed of data from more than one file, and even tho the user who wishes to reseed has the complete video file, this user may find it impossible to possess all the data needed to reseed the video file.

Today I typed out this post but the thread was gone:
Cewan, the thread you went off on, and off track on, was a new torrent post thread where the user obtained a torrent from some place called zoink.it and posted that torrent here as tho it were a nice torrent contribution they would be providing seed for or at least *someone* would be providing seed for. But in all reality the torrent was an edited version of my original torrent with all the trackers removed and my comment edited to say spam for zoink.it, *AND* there was absolutely no seed. That torrent was not seeded, didn't get seeded, and never has been seeded. I possess those files as they were of my creation but I am not going to seed a torrent..... that has multiple reasons for me to NOT seed. Everyone is *thank*ing(or *like*ing) that user for a torrent that he never mentioned was unseeded & that he never had intention of seeding. They created a new torrent post at AO using an unseeded torrrent they got from somewhere else with no intention of ever seeding which IMO amounts to a seed request, it was off-topic for this section and belonged in the request section and got deleted by a mod here. That torrent was not my original torrent, it had been modified to add spam to the torrent comment, and my tracker list had been removed. I have considered creating a new torrent, with a different path to the files, to attach to my original post.... maybe I will.
Now, in this thread which you are currently commenting on, something entirely different is going on and your flawed path of logic is attemping to link to the aforementioned situation to this situation, the user has posted a new torrent containing renamed files with spam added to the filename & some http links to some other site(spam links) for a DVD title, and exact same video file, as a currently seeded(6 seeds) torrent post in this section. If someone would like to obtain this exact same video file by torrent from AO they can already get it from the original post and do not need to use this torrent to get files that have been renamed to contain spam for another website plus the spam HTTP URLs.

Then Cewan ninja'd me, posted again. THEN a mod deleted the thread and other threads posted same day by same user.
Good work on reporting the bad posts Cewan.

Cewan, sorry for never thanking( *like* ) your posts despite your at least 35% of the time your making very good posts, and some outstanding posts. My inability to *like* any of your posts stems from your public testimony of kookiness; ie, your testimony of your abuse of your imagination for the purpose of having an invisible friend with supernatural superpowers. That is a mad whack deviation from reality that I cannot contribute to.

Wow, thx for saving that...a little hard to read though, I am honored. And thx for finally replying to this thread, which you personally inspired.

I mentioned you in that post because I noticed you enjoyed (liked/thanked, whatever) isityours observation. Which is cool, isityours made a good catch. But I had asked for your input on an earlier instance of someone reposting dead torrents, at least one of those earlier reposts (that I also reported) was also filled with similar spam. I even mentioned that in my report to the mods. But I shouldn't have been the one to send the report to the mods. It should have been one of the longstanding and contributing members who had noticed that something was wrong in the first place. You and Isityours are both great members here, IMO, but when you notice trash posts like what inspired this thread, please report it to the mods.

It is okay that you don't like me, for whatever reason (I have nothing against you though, FYI). I can even take a little criticism, most of the time (or at least some of the time, lol). I can't be friends with everyone in the real world or even on the internet, that is just a part of life. I even accept that some people will hold grudges over my occasional emotional outbursts (and yes, I do have them from time to time), even if I forget about them and move on. I think often my anger over real life frustrations might inadverdently be voiced here, sry about that. I find it sad that some people hate me over my religious beliefs but that is going to happen too. I don't enjoy when they are insulting about it though, as if they are somehow better than the vast majority of the world population that practices some sort of religious beliefs. Nor do I believe that religious persecution should be allowed, on any moderated board, ever. It is as ugly as racism. Let us live and let live.

Happy Holidays to you CMoarIdols and thanks for posting in this thread. Your input is appreciated.

Sure, I'll have a nice day on that day, it doesn't bother me or affect me negatively in any larger way than the constant assumption that I also abuse my imagination(an insult to my intelligence) and that it is a holiday to me.

Yeah reporting spam, duplicates w/spam, seed requests disguised as new torrent posts, and other bad posts is a way that any one of us users can and should participate here at AO. I do report... when a post is clear-cut wrong. Then I'm a little lazy on the ones that are less clear-cut and take the easier way out expecting that someone else will come along and do the duty. Some days real life has taxed me to the point that I just don't feel like typing anything and I'm just not up to it, no matter how simple it may seem. Encouragement, and a friendly reminder to everyone that they should use the report feature on the forum is a good idea, the mods already do that because they'd enjoy all the help they can get with their enormous job.

" But I shouldn't have been the one to send the report to the mods. It should have been [someone else]"
    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^Wrong answer!
Whoever sees something and is not too lazy to click the 'report' link should report!

In the case of my Riko Kawanishi torrent I was just waiting a few weeks to see if the OP was or was not going to seed, they may have just had a slow upload =] Weeks, or months, later when the thread got bumped again I just had to speak up that day. The other user gets 127 Thanks for posting torrent with no trackers and spam in the comment and I should seed it for them? I felt more like just explaining the facts that day.

Awww, come on...it can't be that hard to insult your intelligence.

Seriously though, I have two brothers and one is a muslim ( I believe I have mentioned that elsewhere on this board) and one is an atheist. Believe it or not they are just as argumentitive as me. One thing we don't argue about howeer is religion. We are all set in our ways and we just know it isn't going to be an argument that will serve any purpose. So over the years we have just learned to respect each others rights to believe as we will. We are family and that is what is important. I celebrate Christmas and you celebrate a day off. So what? I have no problem being happy for you.

And you were right to do so and that is what started this thread. The most important fact though, was that a member was abusing his posting priviledges on this board and that was something the mods needed to be made aware of.

I am glad we are on the same page and hope we can work together to keep Akiba-Online free of trash posts like people posting dead torrents in order to get seeds (I still do not understand the logic of that) and people reposting others work in order to spread spam. A quality board takes a little effort from its' members, we can't expect the mods to do it all without our help.

Thank you for your commitment to a better Akiba-Online, your contributions have always been notable.
