So many questions we may wish to ask. For the curious english speaker, there's precious little information out there for someone who wants to learn more about the world of JAV.

This thread is for documentaries about AV girls and the AV industry, or that give insight into that world.

NB: I speak of contemporary AV, and not the pinku films of the 60s, 70s and 80s of which there's more interest and thus, more is written about. There are a handful of documentaries about the sexual underbelly of Japan that I'm not including here because they don't touch on AV specifically, such as BBC's "Sex in Japan", "Geisha Girl", "Great Happiness Space" and "Arakimentari" to name a few.

From the same director as Sekilala. Annyong Yumika (Goodbye Yumika) takes its name from legendary Japanese porn starlet Yumika Hayashi, who also had a big career in Korea. But perhaps most intriguing about this odd nonfiction look at the woman who took top honors at the Pink Grand Prix for the softcore Japanese flick Lunchbox—and who met an untimely death in 2005—is that it's truly not made for Western eyes. Practically experimental in his whimsical collage approach, director Tetsuaki Matsue takes as his jumping off point the discovery of his subject's previously lost film, Junko: The Tokyo Housewife. That softcore Korean production, which cast Korean actors speaking Japanese, becomes the catalyst for not only retracing Yumika's life (through old home movie footage and bizarre reenactments at actual locations), but also for exploring, to use the title of one talking head professor's book, "the Japanese as seen in Korea."

Segueing between clips from Junko to interviews with everyone from her directors and co-stars to a film critic who's written a book about her, Annyong Yumika is nothing if not thorough, often amusingly so.

This one isn't about an AV starlet per se, but she's part of that world.

Erotic pop art documentary faeturing 'Koe-chan'. She is an idol shop clerk of the large manga shop 'Mandarake', popular for her 'costume-play'. She also presents herself on internet and other media. In this documentary, various artists paint her naked body.

I have both the rip and ISO of Annyong Yumika. I only have 256K upload speed for the next week and several days, so I can't share it until I get my regular internet back.

I'll try to get around to uploading that sooner rather than later. Still no subs for it though.

Honeymoon - 2006

Honeymoon is a documentary on life behind the scenes at Paradise TV, where the realms of capitalism, culture and commerce intertwine. Slovenian director Dražen Štader and his cameras are provided rare access to the inner workings and politics of this strange sex business.
