I don't think you are on the right page with us here...

I can't say this for Rayheng or who ever posted JMSZ-13, but most of the video I bought directly from akiba-web are 720x480 (for example GOMK series), and that IS in fact a valid 3:2 (equivalent to 13.5:9) video ratio, that sometimes can be cut into a 16:9 with slight loss of the top/bottom or it can be distored into a 4:3 when adding that black area on the top/bottom. There are some older versions such as TOR and TBB that uses 640x480 (4:3) ratio, but that's only for the older files.

If you are having problem with the "distortion" while viewing, and unsure whether to put it as 4:3 or 16:9, I suggest that you just use default at 100% or 200% zoom instead of custom zoom or custom ratio. Or if yo have a 16:10 monitor, that's another option as well.

Sadly, it doesn't mean they know what they're doing even if they're a professional company. I've seen some truly horrible stuff done to video on some original DVDs.

I'm not saying it's impossible, but it would be very unlikely to have a professional video displayed at 3:2 that hasn't been cropped or doesn't have black bars. Like I mentioned before, encoding to 3:2 is perfectly fine(and what I would recommend if the source was a DVD since they're all encoded to that), but there has to be adjustments made to the container to make it display with the right aspect ratio.

You can find whether a video is supposed to be displayed at 16:9 or 4:3 simply by looking at the back of the cover.
Since you mentioned the GOMK series, I found a cover(GOMK-02) on the forum and it clearly states that the video display aspect ratio is 16:9 and not 3:2 like you think it is(the information is on the bottom left, just over the "co" of "GIGAco,ltd"): http://www.akiba-online.com/forum/showpost.php?p=2236881&postcount=2

I very much know what I'm doing and can easily fix it either with my player or by remuxing it, but it's always better when it's done before uploading since not everyone knows how and it doesn't have to be repeated every time you play it(if you choose not to remux it).
