I never tried it as I don't own a PS2. But I have some doubts that it is related to Japan in any way. So one of the tech sections would have been more suitable for this thread.

If you go through the article I mentioned you'll find Amazon links in it. And all the links are still working and pointing to products which are still being sold - at least in the U.S.. But they also ship the items - at least they offer to ship it to my location (which is is outside the U.S..). So I recommend that you have a look if they ship it also to your location or if you get these items on you national Amazon site or maybe on eBay.
