It's true that photobooks tend to less, um, "utilitarian" than digital images.

But the detail and quality of a good photobook is what keeps me buying them (though I end up reselling ones I'm disappointed with, which, unfortunately, is pretty often).
As for scans, well, I've never found a way to make a good scan without damaging a book, and it's labor-intensive and time-consuming, so don't hold your breath.
