Tokyo govt surveys disputed isles in row with China

A team of Japanese surveyors conducts an offshore survey from boats near Uotsurijima island, part of the disputed island chain known in Japan as Senkaku and Diaoyu in China, on September 2. The surveyors sailed to the disputed islands in the East China Sea that the nationalistic governor of Tokyo wants to buy, with Beijing lodging a "serious protest" at the action

A team of Japanese surveyors on Sunday sailed to a group of disputed islands in the East China Sea which the nationalistic governor of Tokyo wants to buy, in a move China described as "provocative".
Tokyo Governor Shintaro Ishihara, known for his outspoken views, dispatched the team, which arrived at the island chain claimed by both countries, known in China as Diaoyu and in Japan as Senkaku.
Ishihara wants to buy them from their private owners to highlight Japan's claim and build a small harbour for fishing vessels.
The 25-member team remained on their boats to survey the shoreline and waters around the rocky uninhabited isles, Japanese television showed.
The national government rejected their request to land on the islands.
"Seeing it with your own eyes is different from seeing them on a map," Seiichiro Sakamaki, the Tokyo official leading the team, told Japanese television networks as he stood aboard a survey ship near the islands.
"The scale and size are very clear to see. The governor has asked what could be done to build a small harbour. We want to check the islands with that in mind," he said.
Ishihara, a vocal critic of China, has previously said he hoped to visit the islands himself in October when he sends another survey mission.
Chinese state media said the surveyors were acting "illegally", describing Sunday's mission as the "latest provocative move that infringes on Chinese territory".
"To curb such provocations and ease tensions over the islands, the Japanese government should avoid being crippled by the right-wingers and handle relevant issues from the overall interests of the Sino-Japanese relations," a commentary on Xinhua news agency said.
Testy Japan-China ties turned for the worse in August after pro-Beijing activists landed on one of the islands, which are controlled by Japan. They were arrested by Japanese authorities and deported.
About a dozen Japanese nationalists raised their country's flag on the island days later, prompting protests in cities across China.
The car of the Japanese ambassador was targeted in Beijing when an unidentified man ripped the national flag off the vehicle.
Japan's national government is also considering buying the islands for 2.05 billion yen ($26 million) from the same landowners with whom Ishihara is negotiating, the Nikkei newspaper said Sunday.
By avoiding Ishihara's direct involvement in managing the disputed islands, Japan wants to prevent the dispute with China from heating up further, local media have said.

China is one to talk. It is their invasion of Senkaku that has helped stirred the big pot of nationalism in Japan. Because of their irresponsible actions, people like Ishihara and Hashimoto are going to gain much more votes in the next Japanese elections. Their detente for the few years after koizumi might end abruptly.

I never thought I can talk about politic issue on the web, not on the site like this. Someone above me just said: Read the history. That's not help okay? When you do research, you can find Korea was once part of China, Japan was too. That's why people see Chinese characters in some countries.

My point is, what the heck is the point? American said they are not behind the even, but actually it's not. Chinese said people protest are all self volunteered, but that's fuxk not. Japan at what position can sell/buy "Diaoyu" island? All of these headlines are crap. These involved countries only care about resources. That means, if this even will be resulted at a nation wins the lsland, a group of people of the nation will be rich. Would that group of people will include one of the men in this forum? or in one of men in China protests? Or ones who tried to aboard the island? I really doubt it.

Hell Yeah. Only the captalism and commercialism behind the even. But those people appear in the headlines do this in Racism way. And blinds like someone above make others to do history research... (hey! I am here to grab something fullfill my desires okay? Otaku!).

As I know, when "J" and "A" and "P" combine together means a lot impolite to Japanese. I assume he came from same race as mine, would he be happy when he is being called stink banana? I am not Englisher, but I think once this forum is made out of English, some censorship should take place.

Peace.

I have actually never understood how calling someone a Jap can be considered derogatory since it just seems short for the word Japanese, yet I have been told it is so. It does seem that some people have used it in an insulting way though, no denying that.

China seems to be laying claim to a great many islands that other Asian countries such as Vietnam and the Phillipines have a claim to as well so I find it difficult to say the Japan is the one with the greedy eyes here. To hell with history, just look at current events. China is one of the largest and wealthiest countries in the world, I do not think they are lacking in natural resources either. This is only a big deal because they wish to make it a big deal.

Japans' Ishihara is also guilty here of the shameless politicing to the point his own government is looking at ways to curtail his lack of political tact. If I was him I would feel a bit embarassed over this and learn to keep to affairs more closely relating to my own job description.
