But hentai is not only sex, but violence and brutality too, so this is classified as adult content, I think is is better posted here.

This is the original file name: (18禁アニメ)[うるし原智志] プラスチックリトル(雲海歷險)(無修正). The "(18禁アニメ)" stands for hentai classification, "(無修正)" for uncensored.
I dont quite agree. Lots of Anime have violence in them, but are not classifed a Hentai. Ghost in the Shell is a good example. Black Lagoon with all the swearing and killing that goes on is not classified as hentai, even though it has a MA rating. Blood+ has a lot of violence, killing monsters mostly, but a lot of humans die as well. Hentai is sex, and anything additional is part of the story. If an anime has a love story, and has sex, it should be classified as a Hentai, but without sex, its a normal love story.

This is an interesting discussion and I'd like to add my thoughts to it. But, wouldn't it be better to have a topic in the Hentai Discussion section?

I must agree with redrooster on this one, in a certain way. Hentai is a Western term used to describe erotic anime. You'll never see that term in any of the anime or manga releases in Japan. They are either Adult anime/manga, ero- anime/manga, or 18 restricted anime/manga. I personally do not like the usage of the terms Hentai or Ecchi, as they're quite deceiving in terms of content and is based mainly in Western concepts of what's hentai/ecchi. For example, for years I have heard people say that Kekko Kamen is a Hentai anime/manga but there is no actual sexual intercourse in any of the live-action/OVA/manga, and it was originally published in a shonen magazine. Even it's movies are 15+ restricted, not 18. On the other hand, Violence Jack is a brutal series which is adult restricted for its visual violent and sexual content, but I don't think that makes it a Hentai production. Even so, it should not be along with regular series.

A lot of the seinen products might be considered Hentai by our standards, but it's merely adult content, which doesn't necessary mean erotic content. Just take a look at the English Wikipedia entry of Hentai and then look at its Japanese counterpart. Even if you don't know what it says, you can see that Hentai, as something manga/anime related, has basically no meaning for the Japanese market in general.

How do we differentiate a seinen series which has lots of erotic content from a true erotic/porno series? Toshiue no Hito has graphic sex, but it also romance. I don't think it should be classified as Hentai. But nonetheless, it's adult restricted.

There rarely are sections for Japanese adult material which isn't erotic in Western websites. Since there is none here, I think it's fair to put Plastic Little in a Hentai section. It might not be erotic like Front Innocent, but it was originally adult restricted, wasn't it? IMHO it would be better to have a section for Adult content (classified like that by Japanese sources) which isn't erotic (hentai) to avoid this kind of confussions. I'd personally stop using hentai, but it's so attached as a description for erotic anime/manga, that it is not an option to drop it.

First I have to remind the crowd that hentai is a japanese word, used to describe a lecherous/twisted/perverted person.
It SHOULDN'T be used for any manga/anime production with adult material. And I know it is done anyway.

Violence Jack is 18+ due to its extreme violence, but it's not "hentai".
Is there any sex scenes on it actually ?

eroanime/eromanga describe stories having implied (read with no genitals) or graphical (read with genitals) depiction of sexual acts.
Though I think for mangas the line-crossing between sexual and non-sexual goes much further than anime.

No.
Plastic Little was never meant to be adult restricted. Boobs are commonplace in regular anime/mangas.

I agree there should be a separate section for "erotic anime" like Dream Hunter Rem, Kotetsu, Golden Boy, Kekko Kamen and others.

I agree completely with you. How did "Hentai" ended up being used as it is now? When and where did this wrongly usage started?

Yes and some are very graphic, but you'll have only see them in the manga.

That fine line to distinguish erotic content from pornographic content is not clear either in Western movies. I think the consensus is that as long as the sex is a means to tell a story and not an end in itself, is not considered porno. Probably the same applies to manga.

Yeah. I also don't think that an anime like Violence Jack (for example) should be in the regular sections. It's not hentai, but neither a regular anime.
